Default 2008 STI, XPT Stage 1, First time at track (in this car), 1/8 mile

Went to Quaker City yesterday for a couple of runs. Due to extremely high crosswinds we were only permitted to run 1/8th mile. This is my first time driving this specific car at the track and I must say, this thing will leave the line in a hurry. I was launching ~5500 and slipping the clutch.

You'll notice the trap difference between the two right slips, and the two left slips. I was getting through the eighth just at the top of 3rd gear which tops out at 83mph. On the two slips on the right I was shifting into 4th right at the end of the run, whereas I ran 3rd gear out on the right two slips.

What do you guys think? Do these times seem normal? Only mods are XPT Stage 1 tune, and Magnaflow CBE.

Here are my slips:

And here are some pics from the track:

.................................................. .................................................. ..

Here's a quick update. I went to a different track yesterday that was running 1/4 mile. Here's my best slip of the day.

Reaction - .8609
60ft - 1.7799
594ft - 7.6859
1/8 - 8.2512
1/8 et - 79.60
1/4 - 13.2381
1/4 et - 100.63

best trap of the day was 101.34

Traps still seem a little low to me.

Great times, are you using launch control? What is your boost set at? I have never launch that high, my best 60' 1.75 was acquire with a launch at 4.8K

Really? Maybe I'll try launching a little lower next time. I was worried about bogging out of the hole. Boost peaks around 16.5 lbs. I was not using launch control, though I'd really like to. I think I could get off the line a little quicker if I didn't have to worry so much about keeping the RPM's on target.

I was thinking the trap seemed a little low as well. The temp was ~62, elevation 1226, with approximately 30-40 mph crosswinds.

Haha, thanks. That Dart was REALLY nice, but he was only pulling mid 9's in the eighth. I was a bit concerned when he lined up beside me, haha.

Looks pretty good. I'm not sure what others were running on my Stage 1 but that seems pretty clean and consistent. Picking up 20mph in the back isn't bad for a Stage 1.

well, my stg 1 with intake and tune trapped 102 mph. Good 60' and overall, good times imo. My very best on stg 1 was 12.92 @ 102 mph last June. Just be careful on your launches. I launch mine like a bat out of hell and at 14,400 miles, my OEM clutch is toast. Just ordered an ACT clutch this morning. I only added a downpipe and new tune to my AMR stg 1 set up last year. Guess the OEM clutch doesn't like those 4000-5500 clutch drops.

Mine has 46,000 miles on it and over 300 drag racing passes and i'm still on the OEM clutch. Its all in the feathering my friend.

back on topic.

crosswinds do not help especially if they are more frontal than rear winds. temps were good elevation is decent, without a proper baro and dew point your DA shouldn't be much higher than the track elevation or albiet slightly lower. 1200 ft correction factors for NHRA put your MPH about what a standard stg 1 should be at right around 83mph. (using your 81.53mph 1/8)

Thanks for the info! Looks like I'm running pretty close to where I should be.

Thanks for your input!

Yeah, the crosswinds were brutal! It was difficult to even stand in the bleachers without getting blown over.

Overall, I'm really happy with the car. I think it's running right about where it should be, and I'm getting it down the track consistently.

Thanks to everyone for their help so far.

I doubt you got your STI stuck in 2 ft of snow berm at rallyx twice... my clutch stank for a week! I can say, it wasn't me, but my co-driver, but he's already paying me back to replace my front end from the damage. I'm pretty sure that's what really did it as the clutch still felt pretty strong, even after 100 passes down the strip in less than 3 months time. I have about 250+ hard launches on it since April 1 08 - Jan 09 (rallyx was my last event in the car). It went out on my first run, opening day of the track on Saturday. I thought at first maybe the trans went out, but then it just didn't go into 2nd, then 3rd or 4th... clutch did nothing. Rather replace the clutch then the trans or motor!

back on topic, as mentioned before, your times seem pretty much in line with what they should be.

*edit* also the stock clutch on the 08 sti seems much softer than on our 07 STI.
