Default uel headers for 2.5i

My friend has an 06 2.5i impreza...he wanted to get genuine borla uel headers and stromung catback, and he wanted to know if it was a direct bolt on and would any modifications be required?

Modification is required, you'll have to extend the wire for the O2 sensor.

Why go to UEL headers? The Equal Length headers that subaru put on that car are much better, and to be honest, quite important to make proper torque and horsepower. Especially for an N/A car.

I certainly wouldn't want to trade 10ft/lbs of torque for a 'rumble'.
I think the n/a's sound just fine with EL's.

Just my opinion though.

and you're looking to spent $1500 to do this if you buy new parts, plus labor.

1,500 are u crazy first off were looking at like 1269 not shipping all brand nerw stuff from boxer 4 racing(this includes cat) also why pay somebody when you could do it yourself with alittle work and know how. plus you can get used stuff online for half this price. and third its what ever the op thinks is nice if you put anything on are cars it makes them run slower 17inch rims make it 2hp slower. but hey if you want to be stock and a sqauare thats cool by me i like to stand out but hey thats me.

also to the op yeah it witll take modification also is he using stocks cats cause that takes mod also.

Check out the 2.5i thread in members car gallery. I think there were a few posts about a month back of several people who did this. Its not cheap, its $$$$ and mild performance loss to get this 'sound'.

How does trying to make your car sound like every other subaru make it 'stand out'

Its possible but hard cause there are two cats on are car slide underneath and take a look. One is on the headers other on the cat part and the piping is different sizes from stock headers to borlas and the cat back etc it will take a bit of modification to remidy this. i still say best bet is to do headers then cat then catbcak all new or used on ebay. Also piping is better on the borlas cause the size is 2.25 and less restrictive for the gasses to escape.

if i were you, i would just consentrate on the catback. bolting on the uel headers will amost cancel out what power gain the catback will add. in the end you will end up with a "all show and no go" senario. granted the stock el headers aren't as "pretty" as aftermarket headers are, imo they offer a bit more torque than the old rs uel's.

i got my borla uel for 150, rs catpipe for 30 used, only need to extend the rear o2, no need to do the front, my axle back was 50 (bought it from a friend) then 150 to get the catpipe / headers, axle back installed correctly.. works like a charm and sounds amazing. search the forums for used parts and it'll all cost roughly 400-500 MAX if you do it right.

borla is $360ish and stromung 2.25" CBE is $560 for single tip and $580 for dual tip. installation shoud be no more than $125 if done together, depending on shop rates. total should be less than $1000. all gaskets are included with the items.
