how did you get the GPS to say sti?

Is that the TRC-484? If so, I have one just like it. Nice setup.

That's an excellent question, considering mine only scans down and not up - I'm sure it can't be too hard to wire a new one with an rj-11 in a pinch. Unfortunately, though, finding one with channel up/down controls might be tricky.

Overall, It was a great radio and I still use it for caravans or when the kids want to play. I got mine back in '95 or so.

I'd go here & get a refurb:
http://www.uniden.com/cb-radios/icat/cbradios_b2c/

30 bucks is about as cheap as it gets.

Is the 900 mile drive pretty flat, or rocky/hilly?

Midland 1001Z radio with a Wilson Little Wil antenna. Relatively cheap, very good performance, decent resale value if you want to dump it when you're done with the trip.

I just read this entire thread. Thank you so much williaty for all your answers.

Now I need to decide if I should put a cb in my second din pocket, or put it else and save that for ham radio later on.

You mean other than the recommendations we gave Scotty about two weeks ago just a few posts above where your question is?

I'd like to install my cb radio like this as well. I was able to find this: http://www.scoobytuner.com/products/...5&productID=41

Will that fit in an 06 n/a? I'm worried cause I saw somewhere the part was for 02-05 WRX ONLY. And it costs a whopping $80 too..

The hole in the dash is the same for all 02-07 Imprezas, so the pod will fit. However, on your 06, you may have to keep the clock plugged in and hidden under the pod to keep the airbag system happy as I think your year does have the passenger detection indicator for the airbag in the clockpod.

Great, that shouldn't be a problem I think. Any idea on how you actually remove the clock pod?

I was imagining I could detach the airbag indicator and clock from the plastic pod and keep them plugged in but under the dash. You're saying I should keep the whole thing intact underneath the new pod?

Oh, no. You are correct that you have to remove the clock pod from the dash, then remove the clock/airbag light from the pod, plug the clock/airbag light back in, and then hide it under the new pod.
