Default Tire sizes for 98 Forester Mags

Hi everyone!

I just purchased my mags last week-end and I'm not sure what tire sizes I should be buying.

The mags are 16" OEM 1998 Foresters. I've measured the inside of the mag and it gives me 6.5". However, if I measure the edges, I get 7". This is the reason I'm unsure about my mags' size and the tires I should get. I was told by my friend I should be getting 205/50-16 since this is gonna be safe for my speedometer and odometer.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you everyone!

hobun2-

i know you're canadian, but please, don't call your wheels "mags". they are neither magnesium nor made in the 70's.

in all seriousness, the stock size for your car (assuming you have north american impreza RS or WRX) is 205/55-16. the JDM GC8 impreza and GD WRX's come with 205/50-16. either size will fit your wheels with no problems. the lower aspect ratio will give you a little lower stance and *theorectically* lower gearing. it's doubtful that it is noticeable anywhere but the gas pumps.

hope this helps.

According to Tirerack's database, your 1993 L probably has 175/70R14. 205/50R16 will be about 2% too large, i.e. your speedo will be 2% slow. 205/45R16 is about 2% too small.

If you use the http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html you'll see that 195/50R16 is almost a perfect match in overall diameter. Tire choice is a bit limited, but does include two of the favorites on this board, Kumho 712 summer tires, and Dunlop SP5000 all-seasons.

a 215/45/16 would be almost the same size as well...
