Default Chrysler to mail $1,000 check to existing customers to boost sales

Quote:
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Chrysler will be sending all of its existing customers a check for $1,000 towards the purchase of a new vehicle between now and the end of June in an effort to boost sales. The check will arrive in the mail along with a letter from CEO Bob Nardelli.
Chrysler officials told dealers in a web cast that the check is meant to provide a boost in sales and to help some of the 789 dealers that Chrysler plans to drop form its network by June 9.

The dealers have the choice to either sell their inventor of new Chrysler vehicles or sell them to surviving dealerships.
Sources say that the $1,000 certificate can be used on any new Chrysler model and will be sent to more than 9 million Chrysler customers.

My parents own three Chrysler's including 2 brand new 2009 Wranglers. I don't think they can do anything else to keep Chrysler afloat! I can't wait to see my dad's reaction to $3000 from Chrysler towards a new vehicle.

I tease him about single handedly supporting the company and how he's the sole reason our local Chrysler dealer didn't get cut today!

What about all the potential customers who their dealers have pushed away with shady practices and lies?

I believe GM Canada's PBG (Pontiac/Buick/GMC) is doing the same:

Not bad if you combine w/ the G8's 6,500$ off (http://www.gm.ca/gm/english/vehicles...and-allowances). That's an incredible saving of 7,500$ total! Honestly if I had the money this year I'd totally go for the G8.

You know, normally I'm cheap enough to buy anything if the discount is deep enough, but that is one of the few cars that I would never wanna own no matter how cheap it is.
