Default Saying My Good Bye's to My Baja

Well, I did it. I said good bye to my 03' Baja sport today and traded it for an obsidian black 08' WRX. It's weird, feeling this happpy and sad at the same time. I'll miss her dearly, but I can't say I'll regret the decision. It's very easy to forget the sadness when running this smooth growling beast through it's 5 gears. Yea, it's the first vehicle I've ever driven that wasn't N/A. =D

I must say, wow. All around. The only thing I don't like so far, that I'm sure I'll get used to is the drive by wire. Never had one before, and hate the lack of feel. I find myself giving it WAAAY too much even when I'm trying to take it easy, simply because I can't feel how far I'm into the pedal as I'm letting out the clutch. Then all of a sudden, the car hits about 2-3,000 and the turbo kicks in, and all hell breaks loose.

Anyways, thanks for all the helpful advice over the past few years! Best of wishes!

I did similar thing yesterday.
I sold my 03 baja and ordered 08 Forester XT sports.
I thought I will keep my baja forever........ I could not resist the Forester deal (got new 08 Forster XT sports (AT) for $22000 including the shipping to my house.)
expect to receive my forester on Thursday. I thought about WRX but it's a little small for me so decided to get Forester.

I will miss my Baja but it's time to move on.

Cool

Sorry to see you guys leave the BAJA family, BUT, at least you are staying in the Subaru family!
Good luck on your new vehicles, and stay in touch from time to time!
Keep it under 90, folks!

Yea, the only thing I would have dared trade in my Baja for was another Suby. The Baja, being my first Suby, will go down in history much the same as my first... well you know what! (lol) I will always feel like a Baja owner at heart. Not to turn this thread into a full blown WRX review, but...

Yea, the WRX is a real blast to drive. I'm actually very glad I didn't go for the STI. I have trouble controlling myself as it is without the extra hp, and close ratio gears. I find myself driving around for no reason, like I did 13 years ago in high school, just wasting gas. I must admit, I really like the changes they made.

I also really like the small things. Window frames (car is so much quieter!), auto temp controls, short throw shifter, telescoping steering wheel (always felt like I was reaching for the wheel with my long legs...), new cup holders hold coffee mugs without them tipping over!!, and dozens of other things. Oh, and I never realized how much I missed having a water tight trunk. And here I thought I was getting it only for the power, and manual trans!

A few things I don't like are the auto-tinting rear view mirror (never gets dark enough and reacts too slow), the radio goes louder but doesn't sound nearly as "warm," I still hate the drive by wire (but will learn to live w/ it), low beam headlights suck (brights are amazing tho), and why did they put the 1/4" headphone jack in the center console? (I like to keep my iPhone up by the dash...)

Anyways if anyone wants a 03' Baja sport with 80K, I think Sommer's in Milwaukee will probably be putting it on their lot some time soon. I really had a good experience with them, and was well worth the extra drive for me.

There are times when I think about trading in for a Forester or something with a slightly more upright seating position. Then I think of all the stuff I can haul now and just hose out the back. Have any of you considered rhino lining your cargo areas so hosing it out is an option?

Glad you two are still with Subaru.

Actually, I was wondering more about a Hercu/Rhino-lined Forester/WRX. Yeah, performance will suffer, but you'd be able to haul relatively carefree.

I don't see this happening with me. I like my cruck too much. Nothing else out there could replace it.

Yeah, I feel the same. I'm glad they like their WRX. Gotta stick with what makes you happy!

But I love my Baja too much as well. On-road, off-road, hauling, towing, wind, rain, sleet, hail, snow, etc, I have just never seen something that handles so well that's so versatile. Plus, I still wouldn't want to buy a car that everyone else has, ie, the popular ones. It just doesn't stand out and looks like all the other ones that are driving around. I love owning vehicles that are unusual or just different in some way.
