Default O2 Sensor question

I need to replace both of my O2 sensors. They're both simple bosch 3 wire sensors. Should I be able to go and purchase a generic bosch 3 wire O2 sensor and have it work? Or is there something specific I shoul be looking for? I'm not all about spending ons of cash on the dealer parts just to get one that will plug right in.

Thanks!

I don't see why it wouldn't work right...you would want to splice in your harness to the o2 sensor.

If you get the generic bosch sensor you should be able to get a plug that will mate to it and add that to your harness. I would rather have you do that then splice wires.

When did Subaru change the front sensor? My MY00 front is a
5-wire one, with a six pin connector. There is also some "extra"
piece on the connector itself, that I can't identify - I'll take a
pic and post.

I believe they changed 1/2 way through production in the '98 run. Mine was built in August '97, so I get all the old parts. Off to AutoZone to find the cheapest one. Thanks!

Cool. There is another company NTK (by NGK) that makes them as well.
There must be a three-wire replacement for the Subaru.

I just went to Autozone.com and picked up both front and rear sensors, as well as the O2 sensor socket for the same price the dealer wanted to soak me for a single sensor. $162 out the door.

OEM parts prices get one of these... :monkey:

Thanks again!

Heh.. which clutch issues? After I blew up my 1st engine, I had the flywheel and clutch replaced with new stock junk. Everything has been pretty happy since. It still studders a bit when I don't rev the engine up a bit from a stop, but that's gone on so long that I've chalked it up to how the car works.
