Default Electrical Gremlins - 08 Legacy 3.0R

My wife's 2008 Legacy 3.0R has had a long series of electrical gremlins, each of which has been intermittent enough that a trip to the dealer would seem to be a waste of time.

Three months old - wipers sometimes won't turn off or activate on their own, no longer an issue.

One year old - dash and GPS unit will flicker and black out when starting the car, turning car off and back on usually fixed it - no longer an issue.

Latest issue - AC will sometimes blow hot air for five minutes even when AC switch is on and target temperature is set at 65 degrees (note that this car doesn't have a "temperature" dial per se, it's all automatic).

At first I thought the wiper issue was probably a design flaw related to the new wiring harness inside the steering column to accommodate the paddle shift arrangement, but now these other issues seem to preclude that. Is there a specific ground cable or other ground issue that might be causing this intermittent problem?

I've searched Subaru forums all over the web and it seems we not only have one of the very few 3.0Rs out there but are the only ones with this problem. Help!

There may be a problem with the AC unit itself but the trouble could also be with the air blend door in the air box. It may be moving to the heat position instead of the AC position. The door is controlled by vacuum air from the engine and the position control. The dealer service needs to check the problem out but I imagine the trouble never occurs when they have it.

good suggestion, I'll forward this to my independent Subaru mechanic. He's much more interested in investigating intermittent problems than my dealer! He finds the problem for a small fee, I take it in for the work under warranty. Any ideas on an overall ground problem?

I can't see how the wiper problem would have anything to do with the AC trouble. There also may be an intermittent power problem to the AC compressor also causing the trouble. A good service tech will know what areas to check. Hopefully the trouble will appear so the fault can be found. Intermittent troubles can be hard to find though there are some techniques one can use that can sometimes help flush out the trouble.
