Who needs a car in Tokyo?

Question Newish Tempe, AZ resident - 60k service?

Hi, all.

It's been a while since I moved to AZ, but I haven't been driving my car as much here (new job, work from home). Anyways though, I hit the 60k mark on my 2003 WRX and I think I was quoted somewhere in the 700-800 range from one of the dealers during my last oilchange.

I was looking into a private party that might be able to do it for less. I'm trying to save cash since I'm going to be selling the car shortly and moving to another country (where I won't be able to take, nor will I need, the car).

Any suggestions? I'm in the Phoenix/Tempe area.

Thanks!

Edit: It was Power Subaru in Scottsdale and it's more like $800 + tax.

I looked into getting my 60k service done at Power and was also told 750-800. I called MC Subaru in Avondale and Mike told me it would be $500. Some of the guys here dislike MC for the way they treated racingfish but money is money......

lets not get into the stories about how mike has lied to some members wives... thats another story.

$500 is the basic 60k (repeat of 30k) it will not get your the spark plugs or flush your ps fluid, brake fluid like other companies 60ks. their job is to get you into the dealership and then upsell you. Often letting you know that you have to get XXX service done that its required by subaru (believe it or not a lot of people believe him). Its probably a good time to change your belts too (not timing). Each dealership is not the same and unfortunatly you cannot request your tech when it comes down to routine service. Your best bet is to ask someone (maybe who works at mike crawford subaru) if they do sidework... which i know they do.

OR you can go to places like FAT or GOODSPEED and have the work done there for a fraction of the cost.

since your going to be moving and selling the car, i would recommend just doing the basic service. Since none of us are made of money, it wouldnt make any sense to do everything and expecting to recoup the money when selling it.

1. Elaborate more on these other places. I was interested in private/smaller shops that can do the same service at a fraction of the cost. I stopped paying attention to performance/local shops after I moved down here, as I've been pretty much working from home and barely using the car.

2. I was considering cheaping out on the service and not doing the recommended, but I might be selling to a friend. If that's the case, I'd rather do him right and get the real deal. Problem is I probably won't know if he's going to jump for a little while, as I don't think I want to part with the car until July just before I move.

PM darkrex at AZAWD.org. He works at Power as a tech and he'll get you some good deals.

hmmm fat and or goodspeed could do the work a lot cheaper then any dealership. You might want to give them a call. Thats about as far as i would go as for mom and pop places. I would never go to pep boys or walmart to get any service done on my car let alone a major service. Give them a call.

I gave a call to Goodspeed and they didn't quote me anything less than a dealer, but they said they do extra work that the dealer doesn't do. Since it does look like I'm selling the car to a good friend, I'd rather get a nice job done, so I think I will be giving them a call today to schedule it.
