Default Untuned stg2 wrx knocks on 12s door...

Hey, So I finally got the chance to get to the track last night. 2002wrx stg2+....Untuned.
Launching at 5200 and shifting around 68-7200 right before redline fuel cut. I couldnt get out the hole without spinning from a higher rpm launch or bogged out on a lower rpm launch. I couldnt figure it out...
Can I break 12s?...Or should I man up, save my engine and get a damn tune!? Im car 5068...btw

So I knew the 16bit ecu's were more forgiving but damn 18psi on stock map?

I don't think you are doing anything wrong with your driving, in fact it looks from your timeslip that you are driving the wheels off of it for being a stage 2 2.0 liter wrx w/ no tuning.

Hey Marlon, again nice time! I was going to PM back to say that you should probably be shifting 2-3 around 6500 and 3-4 around 6200-6300 by looking at how much it seems to fall off up top. A tune will definitely help to extend the powerband which is all you should need to get into the 12's. Although don't be surprised if you put it on the dyno and it doesn't make much more peak from your baseline, the AUC you gain up top is what you need at the strip.

next time out I will try a lower shift point to try and stay in the power band. Also I need a high rep tuner to go Very Aggressive with a tune for me...Like blow **** up aggressive. hah. Not really concerned with dyno numbers ATM... But in 2,3,4 gears after 5200rpms I can feel the drop off of power from the stock map... NEEDS a tune I KNOW but...Soo closed untuned I hate it!

Wow 18psi with a MBC totally untuned? The stock ECU runs pretty rich and I'm willing to bet that is your only saving grace! With all the crap you bolted on you'll probably see some decent gains, run safer and have better drivability with a TUNE. The least you can do is pick up a tactrix cable and pay a couple bucks for an e-tune through EQ Tuning or whoever if you dont want to fork over the cash for an AccessPort.

Seriously though what are you trying to achieve? Be the first to run 12's unsafely with a untuned, mbc WRX? I dont even know if that has been done. Either way you can keep that record

edit: AND you're running these boost pressures on less than crappy gas? YOUR CAR HATES YOU.

he speaks the truth.

wanted to also comment why spend the dough on parts and not spend any dough on a tune? doesn't make any sense to me.

Steve!!! I WANT THAT RECORD!! HAHAHAAHAHAH!! NICE!! but no seriously...I want like a 12.6 on the stocker...ewg or meth or both. with a tune obviously...but a 12.9 untuned would be freakin awsome. and yes 90piss octane, my car does hate me.

Jason miller I have a 2002 wrx with a 05wrx 5spd if that makes ANY difference...lol

A tactrix cable and a basic stage two tune would probably be a lot safer than what you're running now...

And if you want some kind of record, you'll need to be shooting for Oppositelock's 12.49 on the stock td04. There's no "stock turbo untuned" record, and I wouldn't want to be the holder if there were. Anyway, meth injection and/or race gas will probably be required if you want to shoot for that 12.49 @ 109. He trapped 111 on another run with a slower time, btw. I'd bet $100 you don't ever get near that record, and it's a great way to break something. I'd get a tune of some sort and just enjoy the car without getting too caught up in any kind of record. Also, there's a chance you would be slower with a tune. You just may be running lean right now, which is obviously fast; but also a good way to blow a ring/melt a piston.

That was good driving though. Trapping 83 in the eight shows you were shifting the piss out of the car.

I dont understand that with all those mods, you wouldnt dish out another 300-400 bucks for a tune.

With that trap, and that 60', you probably wont get a much faster ET than that. 1.7 is probably all youll be able to pull with those tires, no LC, etc.. which is a very good 60'. Nice run, though.

maybe 12.999 with perfect conditions.

prove me wrong! good luck, have fun.

Yes, he has a tune and lesser mods. I dont see how my car when tuned wont get close to that. As if he clicked off a miricale pass?...anyway you just like the rest have no faith in the lil td04. all good though. And yes Im driving to break something. I have 6spd, sti engine and 30r going in this winter. Soo objective is just to last till the summer is over...

No tuners in alaska. No AWD dynos in alaska. I would need an email tune and seeing this was my first time at the track with the car. I SHOULD HAVE LOGGED but...I was trying to break 12s for my life...
And I do believe the tires are holding me back at this point...TOOO much wheel spin in the rear...sad. Track operators were suggesting I get halfway bald snow tires...

Its just a very short matter of time before you burn a piston top or destroy a ring/land...

Since you are moving that much air, your timing map is probably over ran and you are running too much timing..

Don't believe me? Keep driving it

we bring up a tuner at least once a year. you read the last the day or two threads? Jarrad's coming up TWICE this year (if not more). June tune is still open.

while i agree with steves point about being untuned, the fact of the matter is that you will make less power tuned.

stock subaru ecu's attempt to run a crapload of timing, so if you're not resetting your ecu you are running max timing for your setup and octane . if you get tuned your timing will ultimately be lower (read safer) and thus you will be slower.

since your running the stock intake with a panel filter your fueling is most likely fine.

basically, you're running a good amount of boost and the max timing you can everywhere in the rpm band......something that would be hard to achieve on an opensource tune.

running like you are is unsafe with regards to a protune, but ultimately more powerful.

He does have more mods then you....and has made over 300 pass on the stocker so iam sure he also has some practice under his belt. Not saying you cant do it but just putting some things in perspective. Good luck and i would vote for a clark email tune for 150 and have him make you a 100oct/torco map for the track.
