Default Autocross Classing - Question on Downpipes

Hello All,

Currently I have a stock 06 STI that I would like to go to Stage 2. However, I also want to partake in a few local autocross events and would like to purchase a downpipe that is legal under the STU Autocross rules. I know that it needs a Cat and that it must not cause a CEL. However, I've searched a lot and have not found too much info on a good DP to use to get this end result. I plan on mating the DP up to the stock STI muffler.

Do any of you have suggestions on a good DP to go with? I've heard that the Perrin one is good, but have not seen too many others mentioned (other than a custum one made with an APS turboback exhaust, but I would prefer to go with an "off the shelf" solution).

Thank you in advance.

A typical stage 2 tune raises boost, which is not legal in STU.

For a STU legal DP- SEARCH! There have been many threads on this subject.

I have searched and have not located any mention of specific downpipes in the autocross section.

This fellow: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...light=Downpipe
Has made his own custom one (which I mentioend I did not want to do)
In this thread
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...wnpipe&page=38
there are a few listed, such as the Helix/Perrin (which I also mentioned in my post).

In this thread people are posting their various experiences, however, most are dated from 2007 when the rule was put in place. Some later posted that their DP that did work originally no longer worked. As such, I was hopeing that someone could suggest something that has worked for them over the long haul.

I am also aware that changeing the boost mapping is illigal. I will have a STU legal map made, as well as a normal stage 2 map. I just want a downpipe that would not disqualify me from STU.

In short: I have searched, both here and on IWSTI and was looking for further input.

There is a rule being considered that will make having any illegal map illegal. It was proposed in the May Fastrack.

Considering how anti-turbo, anti-AWD the SCCA establishment has become, this proposal will very likely go through.

So, the DP may be inconsequential.

The should change the ST designation to SP for "suspension mod only class".

Ah, did not see that. Thank you very much for shareing.

Hopefully this will not affect me, as I will be running open source and can flash it at home prior to getting to the track. Although it is a huge PITA.....

it's not that big a PITA. I reflash mine before most races. the pita part is switching fuels (I run e85 for racing, 91 octane for long drives). I've gotten good at unhooking the fuel return line...
