Default 06 wrx ~ oil weight suggestions for HPDE

hello all,

i have a 06 wrx, cobb stage 1, with suspension mods, etc. last year was my first year of HPDE, and i had a blast. this year i'm running better brake pads (and eventually tires), but have a question about what oil weight i should run.

as we know, the manual recommends 5w30, which is what i've been running in the car the entire time i've owned it. the question is: should i run a different weight for track days, due to the increased heat/stress on the engine? will the 5w30 eventually break down?

i should also point out that i always change the oil a few days before each HPDE, so it's fresh.

i've read unabomber's oil faq, and although a lot of the info makes sense, i didn't really see anything specific about "track specific" oil usage.

any input would be great ~ and i figured this would be the best sub-forum to ask the question.

thanks!

For the track, I was running 0w-40 eurospec Mobil 1 and have now switch to the 15w-50 extended service Mobil 1 which actually seems to flow better cold than the 0-40. Even the owners manual says use a thicker oil for severe service. I'd take that to heart.

I just leave the 15w-50 in there these days.
