Default Gigs S204 EJ207 Powered Troll Wagon and Friends

WARNING

FEEL TRIP AND STORY AHEAD , SKIP FOR EJ207 AND WAGON CONTENT.

I can really blame my father for all this , When I was 19/20 he got a 2003 Wrx with a salvage title. Little did we know the car was a hack job but at the time it was fun.

It looks nice , But it got T boned hard on the drivers side and the frame rails showed it. It was rebuilt by an ultra shady shop somewhere in Macomb , Michigan. Michigan people will know exactly who I am talking about.


Abused car for most of its life and you end with this. My friend Sean and I were taking it up to Michigan State to visit his girlfriend and her friends. I rolled onto boost in second gear and hear a horrible noise. Stupid me thought it was an oil line when we really threw a rod right out of the case halves and it made a nice hole under the intercooler.


We were done with that car , My father worked out a deal with 31 Motorsports for a car he picked up with a clean title and it just needed a new motor. He built us a motor and we were on our way with Rally Car 2.0. That motor is still running great today after 65,000 miles, Transmission just got rebuilt after 170,000 miles and one Regional RallyX championship.

We did TSD Rally with it and once bounced it off a tree then used two jacks to position the damaged control arm in a place where we could get a spare wheel on it. Then my father drove that car home 250 miles while I passed out in the back seat to keep weight off the front end ( I love you dad ).


Then it got rallied some more, My brother is a much better driver than my father or myself. He won a regional RallyX championship with a stock Wrx in Prepared class with just Megan Gravel coilovers , Hawk Pads and Hankook Rally tires


After all those adventures I bought a blown up 2005 CGM STi , I loved the car but I was a stupid 21 year old idiot at the time. I did not realize how expensive these cars would be and my dreams of building a fast STi did not ever happen. I sold the car because I realized how dumb it was to be then 22 and paying $2200 a year for insurance along with a car payment as well.

I loved the car , It was an absolute blast to drive.

I learned how to tow the car driving back to Michigan from Peoria !

Also you see a subaru in its natural environment !



My brother always is there to tell me things I am doing are dumb or that he hates car kids.

He is one of the best drivers I know and has won a Regional RallyX championship with a basically stock 2002 Wrx and Rally tires.

Default Wagon Addiction Begins

Fast forward to Spring of 2013 , I drove down to Columbus to look at a 2003 Wrx that a guy in his 30s was selling because his wife wanted a Forester XT for the kids. The car was perfect and ended up being my daily driver for the past two years and be a nice distraction from my medical problems.

The Night I bought it

106,000 miles and in great shape.

Cobb Catted Downpipe
Tuned by Turn In Concepts
Koni Struts
Stock Springs



I added a few little things like a Wideband , Prodrive Grille , STi Genome Boost gauge ( Thanks Max ! ) Valentine 1 , 2004 STi BBS and a better radio. I was really happy with it.




My father was a huge help in getting me hooked on these cars , This is his Wrx.


It was also used as a Wagon should be and I even got my first adult job working as am IT minion for a huge trucking company.



Yes a Subaru Wrx wagon can fit five seats inside and one on the roof.


Took it on all sorts of wonderful road trips including Sno Drift 2014 !



Some idiot in a BMW overdrove his car causing an accident , It was either hit a BMW or hit a snow bank. I chose the snow bank and the car survived with little more than a dent. Dug it out and it drove me all the way back home.

Default Spring 2014 , Let the mods begin

So my poor 117,000 mile oem radiator had decided to have enough along with the upper radiator hose which I later found out had a hole in it. Conveniently I was miles from 1800 Radiators and Subaru of Grand Blanc in Flint , Michigan. I also got really lucky with having an entire case of water in the back of the wagon. It got a new radiator and hoses later that day and was running great that night.



I then snagged some JDM Sti wheels for the car



The clutch decided after 130,000 miles of driving 100 miles a day to work that it had enough of life. It was slowly commiting Sodoku.

Normal logical thought would be to replace the clutch , But when you used to own an STi your logic is already flawed.

So I ordered a 2002 JDM STi Spec C swap kit from JDM Racing Motors USA ( J Spec Auto). It had literally everything off the car from the motor back.



The CA on the end of the trans code meant that it has a front Suretrac LSD !


I am lucky to have awesome friends who would help me out with this , My friend Garret swapped his own 1998 RS2.5 with a full Version 4 STi swap. He is insanely good at swapping cars and works on a mix of German Techno and Corona.




Finished Product



Towards the end of 2014 I had a strut fail on me after the great storm of 2014 where half of Detroit flooded. I almost got the wagon stuck a half dozen times in 6-12 inches of water but it got me home.

Replaced the strut that had failed thanks to Turn in Concepts and their insanely fast shipping.

Default How to spend $1000s on an econobox in the name of Love

Around the holidays of 2014 I realized that I did not have the optimal platform for a race car or any kind of serious high power build. But at the same time I am getting older and my tastes have changed. 21 year old Joey thought his straight piped STi was awesome , 24 year old Joey would kill 21 year old me.

I still really liked the car and really enjoyed driving it. After thinking about selling it many times I decided to just do a fun cruiser build that also could see the track a few times a year keeping the car under 350whp for reliability. Its much more fun to be driving you car than to be rebuilding it is my way of thinking.

I overnighted a set of 17x8 +44 Ray's CE28n from Japan !



A friend was selling his Evo 8 Recaros that he had custom done to fit in his 2004 STi so of course I had to have them.



Then things spiraled out of control

Sometime in February a deer decided to be an ******* and run into my fender. It did not die and instead got up running away mocking me as he ran. I vowed revenge and have yet to get it.



So obviously you replace the fender and get on with life.

Nope you Respray the entire car and give it Chemo therapy to get rid of the cancer.

Default S204 EJ207 Saga

I have been wanting more power for years , Now I finally feel I have the driving ability to handle more power. I also have been researching motors since I had got the car and decided on doing an EJ207 swap into the car.

So in March of 2015 my friends sent me a link for an S204 motor for sale , Naturally I liquidated all my wheels and extra parts to purchase it.



So here we are waiting for the motor to arrive and be installed. The trusty EJ205 has around 150,000 miles on it so far and runs wonderful while sipping on small amounts of Rotella T6 here and there.

Its just a dam good car and has been wonderful to me.

Read some of what you've written here. Saw that your dad inspired you towards this cars. Hope my son also takes to them when the time comes. I've been indoctrinating him showing him Colin McCrae videos.

That is so awesome. I have two of this cars, I keep showing my son rally racing videos and telling him how easy it is to work on this cars. I tell him I'll keep them in good condition and he can take over them when the time comes. He is only 8 1/2 but he is already a car guy. Has a huge collection of hot wheels and looks up fast car videos on YouTube.

Nope

Keeping it stock turbo until it requires a rebuild then maybe a 3076.

But that is years away.

Very nice new thread! Certainly more inspiration (and viewing pleasure) for me! I just got my RCE T2s installed last week and they are absolutely amazing! Idk what I like more, the CE28s or the EJ207, but together its sexy time. Subscribed...

Coilovers have been postponed for a little while. Motor first then suspension. I'm taking it one step at a time.

Great choice, that's what I have on mine, stock location 3076r. I do wish I went rotated though. Enjoy!

I just want something reliable that I can take on road trips.

More interested in Cusco differentials and suspension tuning for now.
