Default Sell the Bugeye for a built 2004 STi?

My buddy at work offered to sell me his built STi for a great price. Here's the car: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1765840

Currently I have a 2002 SRP WRX wagon that some of you have seen.

Car is really well maintained, super clean & best of all it's paid for...If I can get what I want for my car, i would only have to come out of pocket about $6k for this STi. I'm seriously considering it due to the fact that while my car is meticulously maintained, it does have around 115,000 miles on it. I would probably end up spending $6k in the next year or two rebuilding the engine/turbo & tranny anyways...I'm thinking just spend the cash now, get a newer car that is leaps & bounds above what my bugeye will ever be...

What do you guys think? I'm thinking there just aren't many downsides to doing this. Besides having the only SRP bugeye wagon at almost any meet.

So he wants 18k for it and you are planning on coming with 6k out of pocket? Is he lowering the price for you or are you planning on getting 12k out of your 2002?

He has made me a lower offer since we work together & such. I know that realisticly I will not get anything above 10K at the most. I searched around on Autotrader & there are many 02-03's selling for up to 13k. All my modds are tastefully done & none of the engine or turbo internals have been touched. Even if I get around 9k & finance the rest, I would be looking at $137 a month payment. not bad for this ride!!

Ya that is what I was getting at. Not very likely that you will get a whole lot out of the bugeye with that kind of miles. FWIW a buddy of mine just picked up an 03 limited with under 40k for 12k.

I would get the STi if it were me and your car is still on stock motor and trans.

Exactly, either way I'm driving a Subaru so life is good! It would be nice to jump from 230whp to 350whp though...

Not me, I pretty much stay in the Chandler/Maricopa area. Work, home, repeat.

This is the only issue. I found plenty 02-03's listing for more than I will list mine for, they even had more miles. But I'm a realist & I know that the local market will set the price regardless of what I say. I do have a few nice goodies though...Wilwood front brake kit, ss brake lines, a ton of bolt-ons, really nice Alpine/Fosgate system, sway bars/strut stabilizers, etc...I will probably list it Monday if everything looks good on the STi when I check it out tomorrow. Anybody want a clean bugeye??

Mods don't make your car worth more, also just because people list there cars for xxx amount doesn't mean they will get anything near that, You do have a nice wagon, but i would say you are going to get around 7k for it with the miles unless you wanna wait for the right buyer,

Also 18k for a STI with 96k miles is alot

Good points. I'm not hurting to sell it at all so it's cool if it doesn't work out. Though it says 18k in the his post, the seller offered it to me for less. If it isn't meant to be than that just means a wrx build right?!

Just found out my app was accepted at ASU for mechanical engineering so this probably isn't the best time to be buying cars anyways...I guess I'll just start researching what will go into the future wagon build. Thanks for all the input guys!
