Default JDM Goodness - Bugeye + Full V8 STI Swap

We finished this project a couple days ago at the shop and got the tune dialed in.

This is an 02 WRX with a full JDM V8 STI swap.

JDM STI 2.0l longblock with AVCS, 1 piece intake manifold, etc
JDM STI twin-scroll VF37
JDM STI TMIC
JDM STI 6-speed w/ DCCD
JDM STI rear diff
Brembo's all around
Catless TBE
AEM CAI
Walbro
MBC
JDM STI V8 ECU
Custom Tune by EQ Tuning

This tune was done on California 91 Octane in 85F weather. Peak boost is at 19.5psi and a/f is rich

This car was a lot of fun to tune. Its all about the AVCS tuning with this motor and turbo, so it took quite a bit of time to get it all dialed in. Its obviously not meant for our wonderful Cali 91, so torque is a bit lower than I would have liked to see, but full boost hits around 3100RPM and power holds very well to 7500RPM. We're waiting for the customer to put in an EGT gauge before we rev it out to 8k and lean it out a bit up top. For now its a blast to keep her up in the RPM's and it sounds awesome all around! Overall response is also really nice for this sized turbo on a 2.0.

300-310whp - 112-113mph traps
325-335whp - 115-116mph traps
380-390whp - 120-121mph traps

Thanks! The powerband is definitely nice. Its a lot of fun to be able to rev the thing out and it works very well in combination with the JDM 6MT ratios.

get a bigger turbo in there soon, just a little bigger and take advantage of that bigger rpm range!

looking good, i say throw a 20g wheel in it, will cost about 250 to do from a good shop, and turn the boost up, i love mine, making full boost by 4100 and pulls all the way to redline, can wait till i get my V8 207 thrown in

Dang, pretty cool how the hp keeps going up. Nice tune.

Looks like it's begging for a big turbo and race gas

This is a customers car and he's quite happy with the current power levels for the time being. He went from a stage 2 WRX to this setup, so it's a huge step up .

Next we'll try some race gas or meth injection and see what this turbo is capable of. I'm sure we'll see a bigger turbo on this car down the line, but for now he's just enjoying it.

Thanks

That seems quite laggy. The current setup and tune hits full boost around 3100-3200 RPM. I don't think he would want to give up 1000rpm of spool for 15-20whp.

Thanks

the turbo can handle 24-25psi at peak if you are willing to take it there, i run 22.5 on 93 pump tapering to 21.5 but i do have a 20g wheel

I have no doubt the turbo can handle 24-25psi peak but our crappy 91 can't .

I already had to play a lot of tricks on the tune to keep knock at bay on spool and in the mid range. We also tried running a bit more boost and got no increase in torque or power due to octane limitations so we backed it off until he gets meth injection or some race gas.

Thanks

Keep in mind he's an EJ205 and doesn't have AVCS

I keep leaving the camera at home. I'll ask the customer to snap a couple pics. Its another "wolf in sheep's clothing" bugeye... nothing too aggressive on the exterior, but you pop the hood and there's a super clean factory looking V8 swap

I second this comment.
Indeed... I thought he had a similar setup for comparison. On an EJ205, 4100RPM is about right for a 20G. Might not be too bad with AVCS then... full boost around 3500-3600RPM. I'm just not sure how much additional power it would make on the same octane. The cars out here on straight pump gas are severely limited no matter how big the turbo is.

And the Meth is coming

i believe this tune to be right on the money, cuz on Harman Motives newer mustang dyno, i read 280awhp at 17.9 psi, with my Ver7 , so 19 psi would make 290.. very nice number..

I second this comment.
correct, also i have a hair lower compression, and a 20g wheel, and the power is made on airboy spreadsheet which is lower reading thatn a mustang, i have run a 12.6 with this setup, and i will admit i am not the best driver, and hopefully when my short ram goes on monday i can pick up a little spool

these 2 graphs look really similar, my car with a VF39 on E85 14.6psi, ported and polish heads, cams and a valve job etc. With boost and exhaust leaks .

I may rev to 7K now
