Default 09 wrx clutch squeal when cold

Anyone notice a little squeal when the clutch pedal is pressed in after a cold start? It goes away after 5min of driving. No noise when the pedal is up (in neutral or when a gear is engaged). It is a bit louder when engaging a gear, but goes away when engaged.

This happened to my car after I hadn't driven it for a few days during the winter. It's nothing to worry about as it happens to a lot of cars.

Just got done looking at my car. Had the same problem this morning, will be doing more research on what may have caused it.

Thanks for the responses. I test drove a sedan the other day to see if the thing did the same, but it did not squeal (it was late afternoon though so it sat out in the sun for a while). Something was fishy with its clutch too. It was really light and the shifter was more notchy and "loose"-feeling relative to my hatch. Maybe they come like that from the factory? Anyone want to test drive a hatch at their local dealer to check this out?

my shifter feels very notchy as well in my hatch, and the 5 shift takes quite a while. test drove a hatch and sedan at my local dealer, both are smooth as butter. i'm going to see if they'll investigate for syncro, bearing, or shift fork issues. i thought my tranny needed to break in, but after 8500 miles it's still the same haha.

to note, my clutch has started the morning squeal lately and engagement is random at best.

sorry, forgot to reply to this a while ago. my car still does it here and there. seems to be more of a problem if i back up first and then get going. but, the car is running like a champ so i'm not worried about it. i'm pretty sure throw out bearings make the noise when the pedal is NOT in. same with the pressure plate. it only engages when in gear and the clutch pedal is out. i haven't investigated this first hand so i might be wrong.

Both my car and truck do this when the clutch isn't engaged. Seems pretty normal and I've had no performance issues.

Here's a video of the noise I have. Taking it to the dealer next week to check it out because I'm paranoid.

My 09 squeals a bit in the mornings, nothing too loud though. After 3-4 shifts i dont hear it anymore. I'm not too worried, but for sure let us know what the dealer has to say about it

I heard it for the first time today on my '08. It was a very humid day and last night we got a lot of rain. Wonder if humidity plays a part in it?

You know I was going to go to the dealership for the noise but it disappeared (haven't heard it in a week). I asked a mechanic friend of mine and he said it might have to do something with slight oxidation (rust) on the fly wheel during rainy humid days (which was when I seem to have experienced it... it was rather chilly too).

Anyways, it's gone now so I'll observe a little bit more and see if it comes back.

I've also had the same issue, they replaced the release bearing and all was good for about 3 days. Then, very quietly and progressively it's been getting louder. It's reassuring that so many other people have had the same issue.

I have a squeek every time i depress the clutch. It is something rubbing. All they do is grease it and then it comes back eventually. My 2005 did the exact same thing.

I get that squeal in the morning also. Its probably just the throwout bearing.

I have a thread about this in Drivetrain, but yeah I think I'm having the same issue. My 09 has 1800 miles on it and when I called the server dept, they said to give it till the first service at 3750 but I do all my own service.

The squeak/noise I get is not the release fork pivot (since it doesn't happen in neutral or with the car off).

It also is not a clutch pedal issue . For me it is most definitely outside under the car as I can only hear it while very conservatively engaging the clutch with the windows down.

It happens most noticeably when I back out of my parking spot at work after the car had been off for 8 hours and as I go to engage 1st to start going. It only happens when the clutch is partially engaged.

When fully engaged, it does not occur and after the car has warmed a bit, it does not occur.

Someone said the dealer replaced the TO bearing and that did not fix it. This is good news to know it is not the TO bearing. I think when a TO bearing is done for, it would not fix itself as the car comes to temp, it would be all the time.

My thoughts:

-Clutch disc springs?
-Pressure plate is still breaking in?
-Return spring on release fork?
-Slave cylinder?

Interesting! Because this is the case with mine too. As I back out of my parking spot, I do NOT hear it. But as I go to engage the clutch in 1st, that is when I hear it.
