hey now, that was only my second time hitting that thing.

Have you ridden the entire HLC line yet? I might give that a shot. its got case guards on every jump and looks to be a great line to progress on. Just gotta handle that first drop.

I think elbow pads are in my near future. A friend of mine was talking pressure suit, but I'm feeling like that's too much at this point. dunno.

There's never too much protection

I would get knee pads as well. Had a pretty bad spill at Duthie not too long ago, was out for like a month. Had I been wearing knee pads nothing would have been hurt

I have not, that first drop looks alright, but the jumps are pretty lame from what I'm told. They look really rough and there is no lip at all on them. Personally I like being thrown forward more than up so I may like them more than my friend.

Anyone down for the XC race on Saturday?

no XC race for me. Have a busy day already. Plus, my bike is not much of a pedaler.

I've already got the knee/shin pads. just looking to increase the protection a bit. Have you guys (or anyone reading this thread) ridden with a pressure suit? I told myself I was going to get one once i started thinking about the more difficult lines, but it feels like it would get hot real quick. hmmm, i'd probably need a jersey for a pressure suit also.

I might come out to watch. I'm in no shape right now to be competing in anything physical

I'm seriously considering entering the "beginner" class for the race. I think it would be a cool experience and it is only 8 miles, so it isn't too tough.

^ Yes.

Lol, if you look at the site it shows all the routes they made up. The beginner route is two laps around Movin' On + Bootcamp + SW XC Loop combined.

The race was at the same time as my soccer game, so I didn't enter. I bet it was a little wet though.

I did ride the Tapeworm on Sunday. Some sections are getting a little overgrown and making it hard to see the trail, but it just adds to the fun! It rained again Sunday, so that's 13 out of the last 15 weekends I've rode have been in the rain. I can't wait for it to dry out.

This Sunday I'll be riding lake Sawyer. Anyone else around here ride there?

well, i bought a pressure suit yesterday. I'm trying to push myself beyond my comfort zone and figured I ought to through some protection on. Of course, i can't go ride because I blew up my fork on my FS bike, so it is in the shop right now getting fixed. not sure how well my Giant STP3 will handle drops over 3 feet.

It'll handle it as well as the rider will make it handle it

Can anyone suggest a trail at Duthie with bigger jumps than Luna but smaller than Paramount / Semper Dirticus? I'm looking to spend some time practicing on jumps like the first two on Semper Dirticus, but without going upstream on the first section of S.D. over and over.

Thanks!

Have you tried Ryan's Eternal Flow line? It has decent size jumps and it is a pretty long ride.

Haven't been on that one yet, but I'll check it out next time.

I'd kinda prefer a shorter trail, so I can work the same few jumps over and over for a while, but I'll take what I can get...

Only issue with Ryan's Line is that there really aren't too many jumps. Most of the features are drops and the few jumps it has are not very good. To be honest, there really isn't much middle ground between the two you're talking about.

Check out the last jump on HLC line. Also the THIRD jump on Semper Dirticus is quite easy if you just go for it. I watched my friend do them both a few times and just went for it. Case protection is your best friend, and your worst enemy.

have you tried 2hi? I guess the jumps aren't very but but its fun and short. I'm going to try the hlc line from the start next time. My only problem is that there's a sort of hip jump midway and I have no real idea how to hit those. Someone on mtbr.com was just saying look where you want to land and start the turn before taking off. Sounds easy, right? Rrrright...

Not sure... where's the entrance to 2hi?

Find a small hip and work your way up.
That works for skateboarding and snowboarding, so...

It starts right at the platform for the Luna Jumps, but goes the opposit direction. Basically if you take the walk up trail from the clearing, you just ride right past the platform.

I hope I get my bike back from the shop tomorrow. What I'm worried about the hardtail is that my cranks have been creaking a lot and I think its because they're a bit loose and there's a tiny bit of play in them. I'd hate for them to become completely loose on a trail or especially on a landing. I've tried tightening them down but no luck. Honestly, I'd like to buy a new BB and cranks for it anyway. they're pretty old. Not sure how much that'll run me though.

I haven't seen any small hips in Duthie and haven't explored anywhere else yet. I've been thinking about going to a skate park to give it a shot.

OK, now I can picture it. I haven't been on that trail but I'll try it next time.

There's a skatepark in Redmond that allows bikes, it tends to get pretty busy but still, that's not a bad idea. There's a pyramid box in the middle that would make for good hip practice too. If you can avoid running anyone over, or getting run over.

I went to Duthie on Tuesday for a while. I was severely malnourished so I didn't ride very hard. It has also been about two weeks since I last rode so I didn't really feel comfortable jumping back into it full force. I really need to start riding more often! Especially since this weather is holding out quite nicely!

So I've been in the middle of a complete tear down/rebuild of my bike and I was just about to primer my frame when I found this -

So that sucks... But the nice thing is that these are lifetime warranty frames. The really nice thing is that they don't have any more of these v1 frames, so I'll be getting the new 2010 model.

http://www.transitionbikes.com/Bikes_Covert.cfm

Think I'm going to go with the blue.

Glad to hear they are taking care of things for you! Good thing you caught it early and the frame didn't fail on a big jump.

Stacey and I rode St. Edwards today. Great time riding for about two hours. She was mobbin' out on her hardtail.... I can't wait until she gets a real bike with some good pedals!
