Angry Wierd Start Up Noise! HELP

Okay, so about 2weeks ago I changed my clutch. (2002 WRX Wagon) I used a stock style Exedy clutch. Had the Flywheel machined by Clutch Dr when they brought my clutch kit out. Installed everything, seemed to be good. Then a day or so later, noticed a 'knocking' or 'clicking' noise when I start the car. Happens maybe 85% of the time. Does not sound good! Just pulled my intercooler off to check to make sure starter is tight, and it is.

Just wondering if anyone had any ideas before I tore the transmission out to check everything.

FYI: Car runs and drives fine. Makes good power, clutch does not seem to be slipping. I torqued everything down, used threadlocker & tamper seal where necessary.

Thanks,

Greg

It seems to be coming from the front, maybe driver's side. It only lasts for what seems the duration of the starter engaging.

Kos: Yeah clutch has to be in to start, but it doesn't make the noise until I actually crank it....

If me or my two mechanics can't figure it out, I may have to stop by.

Didn't notice it much tonight, but I got one of your locals working for me right now (Don), and he doesn't have too much input on the subject.

Did an APS uppipe install today, maybe that's distracting me!

When you got everything, basically the tranny bolted in, did you snap the throw out bearing into the pressure plate.
With the slave cylinder out you just push the fork torwards the firewall. It usally will go in when you press the clutch in for the first time. But i dont believe this is your problem, just gotta make sure.
Honestly i would just pull the starter back out, reinstall it and see if it does it anymore. Longer bolt on top of starter, shorter on bottom.
Smack don and tell him to call me tomorrow mornin an well do some telephone diagnostics

bringing back from the dead. I just had a new clutch, pressure plate, throw out and pilot bearing installed. OEM flywheel was machined. Upon start up, there is a vibrational noise and i can feel it under my seat and through the shifter.

sounds like starter and flywheel aren't in sync. What are my options?

yeah, pull it all apart again.

The flywheel is 2 pieces, make sure that the screws that attach the inner to the outer flywheel are tight. Mine came loose and the car would vibrate at idle, eventually the crank bolts will come loose and break from the vibration, and the flywheel will bounce of the crank, screwing up the surface where it mounts.
