Assuming I get my MR2 back from the garage before Friday morning, and that it doesn't blow up on the way down to Binghamton (or start leaking any other fluids), I'll be there

George, do you know if they'll be doing any sort of pre-registration before the event? I'd hate to drive all the way down there and not be able to compete...

I didn't see anything on their web site http://www.cnyroadrace.com/scca/solo2.html about pre-registration. I seem to remember that I was running late to the event last year, and other than not having enough parking, it wasn't a problem.

no on the $5 to watch... there is 2 places to watch from.. by the road at the entrance and in the "pit area"
its free at the entrance
and its $20 to get in the "pit area"
its for insurence reasons

You sure about the $20? A friend of mine went with his girlfriend last year, and she had just had surgery on her thumb so she couldn't drive... I think they had to pay $5 to get her in to the pits.

Anyway, if you want to check out the cars you'll definitely want to get in the pits. But if it's $20, I'd say it's not worth it

Oh, I may be driving my WRX after all... I'm not going to get my MR2 back from the garage until tonight, and since I'd be leaving tomorrow, that's not much time to check for any more problems, and I'd hate to get all the way down to Binghamton and have something blow up on me

I'd hate for you to drive Binghampton, too - since Cherry Valley is just east of Skaneatelas on Rt. 20. Here's a map from the CNY website-

I know, I've been there before, but since you asked, here's my weekend road trip in detail

Tomorrow morning: drive to Binghamton, apartment hunt with the girlfriend.

Tomorrow night: drive up to Watertown to see girlfriend's parents.

Saturday morning: drive down to Laffeyette from Watertown to race.

Saturday afternoon: drive back to Albany and hopefully not pass out until I make it to my apartment.

That's a lot of miles to put on a car I'm a little uncertain of Plus, that's an awful long time to be cramped up in an MR2!

I would guess 3:00 or 4:00? Not sure though... depends on how many people show up.

Default Saturday

I guess that I should have chimed in on this before, I've been otherwise occupied ( I hate it when I actually have to work). Anyways, I'm nominally co-chairing this event, so I may be of some assistance. I believe that the charge for spectators is $10. (I'll confirm this at tonights meetiing). I'm guessing that this early in the year this won't be too crowded. We have discussed capping entries at this venue (somethign that I am in favor of) but we are not doing so at this event. If it holds true to form we should get at least 3 runs in each.
P.S.

Between you and Duncan, I'll never get to win an event in my home region

Don't worry... if Duncan shows he'll probably be driving his new CRX

Registration opens at 7:30, right? I'll probably try to get there not too long after 8:00.

Nope I'm actually running in Dstock. I got rid of the unichip, and got dotR's for my stock wheels, I figure I'll be faster that way anyways. Plus I was actually faster without the chip, smoother throttle response.

Nah you and the GF will probably kick my butt, this will be my first outing with the R compounds, so I'll probably be all over the place.

<-- No $$ left for R-compounds, so if I run the WRX, it'll be STX for me for sure

So you got an MR2, how do you like it? I've always been a fan of those cars. What year? Super/Turbocharged? I've been thinking of picking up a Miata myselt, the idea of having a convertible is pretty appealing to me.

P.S.
What's up the the "server too busy crap", I thought they just upgraded?
I think that i-club should charge dues of like $5 per year, I'd pay and then they could afford better hardware and bandwidth.

It's a 1991 n/a, so it's a somewhat down on the desirable scale as far as MR2's go. Only around 130 hp and close to 2,800 lbs, so it doesn't exactly pull your cheeks back with acceleration fury, but I'm usually smiling while I'm driving anyway

It's a T-top, so it's close to a convertable, but a little safer for roll-overs (not that that's likely to save my head anyway). And, being really low and mid-engined, it handles like a dream. Unfortunately, it's not too easy to do work on, so I don't think I'll have it ready this weekend

Oh well, it'll see Cherry Valley sometime this year

So Tsnow, co-chairing the event - does that means that you will be too busy to focus on your driving? I might have a chance after all...

I haven't decided if I will change over to the V700s or just use the Azenis. It is a pain to change tires before and after the event. Maybe I should'a just setup for STX this year.

Anyway, I'm not too comfortable on the V700s yet - mostly because of the cold temps and pressure settings. I actually had a off course "incident" Sunday that I never want to repeat. Fortunately, I was very lucky and ended up with nothing worse than grass in my tires and a stain in my shorts.

Tim, I was kinda looking forward to seeing the MR2, although I must admit that I am partial to the 1st gen. Did you ever get your WRX hood problem taken care of? What mods do you have to put you in STX?

Any other Subies out there going to the go kart track? It is a fun layout. There are almost no cones which makes it much more visually appealing. There is even some banking in the some of the turns. And if I remember right, there is a food stand right at the track.

I know... I really wanted to spare the WRX the torture of "abuse" this season, and have some fun in my MR2 with it's new clutch and Azenis, but it hasn't been too reliable thus far It's been just one problem after another since I got it out of the garage a month ago... But don't worry, it'll be out in Rome before too long Come out to the Albany event next weekend and it should be running there (I hope).

I can see why you'd be a little uncomfortable with the V700's... a set came with my new wheels and I only had them on there long enough to drive to the tire mounting place and get the tires swapped, but that was a white-knuckled ride! The car wanted to follow every groove in the road, and if I twitched the wheel at all the car shot off to that side. Took a little getting used to. I could see it being fun on the track, though

STX allows all kinds of suspension mods and I think is a little more liberal when it comes to body mods and limited engine mods. Larger wheels, too. I'm running 98 RS wheels right now, so the extra .5'' would bump me into STX. I'd choose to run STX anyway, though, because no R-compound tires are allowed (Unfortunately, if you run STX, I think your Azenis will kick my 712s' soft-sidewalled rumps. )

There's still a big 'ol ding in my hood, but now that I have my MR2 back, I can drop off the WRX to get the work performed.
