Default BMW X1 spy shots released by… BMW, 204-hp diesel model gets 37 mpg

Quote:
While we’ve already seen an image of the upcoming BMW X1 wearing no camouflage at a photo shoot (granted the image was a little choppy and low-res), BMW has dropped four “spy shots” of the upcoming compact SUV.
So far we expect a 2009 Frankfurt Motor show debut later this year.
It has been confirmed by TimesOnline that three engine choices will be offered at launch: the 177-hp and 204-hp diesels from the 320d and 123d respectively, and a 272-hp 3.0L gasoline engine. The latter will make its way over the U.S.; however, we don’t expect BMW to offer any diesel options for the U.S. when the X1 is first launched.
Andrew Frankel of TimesOnline drove the 204-hp diesel model, which he says goes from 0 to 62 mph in 7.3 seconds while returning a fuel-economy of more than 44 mpg (that’s about 37 mpg according to U.S. standards).

Default Bmw X1 breaks cover

Quote:
After seeing lots and lots of teaser, Bmw revealed today, although unofficially, the brand new X1 SUV. As you can see from the photos the vehicle looks exactly like the X1 Concept revealed back in 2008 at the Paris Motor Show. Unfortunately we do not have the official specs yet but we do know, that comparing it to the X3, the X1 is with 112 mm shorter, 64mm narrower and 139 mm lower than the current mid-size SUV. Due to these photos we know that Bmw will release the official details soon, so stay tuned! Until that momen

Very nice interior, still I'd rather get a 328xi wagon for family duties.

Yes.... BUT! The Q5 competes with the X3... there would have to be a Q2 or Q3...

Dear BMW,

Please stop.

Best wishes,

P.S. You can keep the diesel part.

Very spiffy.

Too bad that -

a) we won't get the diesel
b) it's going to be stupidly overpriced
c) transmission choices will likely be limited to the twin-clutch and nothing else

"comparing it to the X3, the X1 is with 112 mm shorter, 64mm narrower and 139 mm lower "

and 500lbs heavier and costs $1000 less and is less useful by an unmeasureable amount!

Why do we need yet another suv from BMW? Why does this vehicle need to exist? Why not just call it the new X3?

Default BMW X1 confirmed for United States in 2011

11111

Quote:
A surprise from BMW North America today: they have officially acknowledged that the BMW X1 will make its way into the American market in 2011. The initial reports were very skeptical regarding the possibility of bringing the new entry level compact SAV to the U.S., but shortly after the Paris Motor Show unveiling, more and more unofficial voices were reporting that the X1 will eventually make its way here.

The marketing for the U.S. market will start in 2010 and will debut a year later. No other details are being revealed at this time, but it seems that both the rear-wheel drive and xDrive models will be available for the American customers. While we expect the gasoline engine to be one of the options for us, we also suspect that one of the diesel offerings will come as well. In our opinion, the xDrive23d with the powerful but still fuel efficient diesel engine, will be a perfect fit for us.

As we progress in the year, expect more news or rumors to come up, but in the mean time, this is exciting news for some of us. Of course, with the launch of the new X3 next year, the BMW SAV line-up might get a bit crowded, but with a reasonable base price set, the X1 could indeed become a viable option for many BMW customers.

Press Release
It was confirmed today that the BMW X1 is planned to debut in the United States in calendar year 2011. The X1 has been conceived with the flexibility to offer traditional rear-wheel drive and xDrive all-wheel drive configurations, as well as a wide variety of gasoline and diesel powertrain choices. In light of rapidly evolving US market demands, fuel prices, and regulatory standards, elements of the X1’s US launch plan, including engine and drivetrain configurations, will be forthcoming closer to the time of launch.

The BMW X1 will debut in Europe this fall with a choice of four engines - one gasoline and three diesels - and will be available in rear-wheel drive and xDrive all-wheel drive configurations. The X1 will set new benchmarks in the premium compact segment for efficiency, comfort, utility, and of course driving dynamics.

Achieving up to 5.2 L/100km (45.2 miles per US gallon) on the European test cycle, the BMW Advanced Diesel-powered X1 sDrive18d will provide remarkable fuel efficiency while still achieving a top speed of 200km/h (124mph). Each drivetrain choice for the X1 will showcase the latest results of BMW’s EfficientDynamics engineering strategy, which is focused to reduce emissions and consumption while enhancing the performance expected of any BMW.

More affordable diesel option - with Manual will be on my test drive list. If its more appealing than the Jetta TDI and the price still works might just end up with one.

Seems out TDI plan has stalled for now - kinda snooping around looking at houses instead. But will be getting a comfy good milege road tripper in the next year or so and Diesel is all we are looking at.

Diesel will not come here. They have sold barely any diesel X5's and 335d's so I expect no other diesel BMW's here at least until the fuel economy standards come into effect.

I personally would seriously consider the diesel x1.
I would also seriously love to buy a diesel Impreza.
And next year if all that is available is the VW Golf TDI then that is probibly what I will buy.
For all the diesel haters, isn't choice a good thing?
Current technology diesel makes sense over hybrid technology to someone like me that travels at 50+ highway miles a day.

Have you seen the price tags on a 335d and X5d? It's no surprise they do not sell well. In Europe, BMW offers the 318d, 320d, 325d and 330d that are all relatively cheaper (especially the 318d and 320d).

it honestly makes no sense at all to have an X3 and X1. It's a saturated market as is and it has no competitors whatsoever cept for the X3. Looks better than the X3 I'll admit though
