Default recommended Albuquerque Subaru shop(s)?

Hey all,

Our Subie is in need of some attention to the tranny, possibly for synchro work. Would any of you have recommendations for a reputable, trustworthy Subaru shop/technician/mechanic/wizard in the Albuquerque area? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Well, if you want Subaru to do the work, you only have 2 main options: Garcia Subaru on Lomas or Galles Davis Subaru on San Mateo. I have had Garcia do some work to the ride and am happy with them.

Thanks! It doesn't necessarily have to be Subaru, just someone who's honest and knows their stuff.

Other than the 2 dealerships, I got nothing. If you are having the drivetrain worked on, or any component that is fairly unique to Subarus, my philosophy is take it to the dealer. Considering that is all they work on/specialize in.

Good luck with the ride! A broken subie make me

When I lived in Abq, I used to take my Suby to Jeff's Gasoline Alley. Jeff's always honest and does good work. Call him to check on the work you need done.

Default Tranny shop

On camtuning.com someone posted a transmission shop that was having a special on clutch changes/upgrades. I don't know the name of the shop. If you need me to I can go search for you.

Stay away form GARCIA!!! Especially Tom the service manager. He lies throught his teeth. IU have an 05 STI, I have had it for 3 years and went to Garcia for the first year and a half. Then I got it back one day, and my driver seat and my rear seat were unbolted. I asked Tom and he told me I did it! To top it off, I just got my car painted told him not to wash it, and he ran it throught the machine and scratched the **** out of it,his reply, I didn't do that, and I'm not going to fix that because your paint job wasn't that good (I just got it done two days prior!) Now I'm working on my rear brakes only to find the cranked down the caliper mounting bolts so tight, they gulled/siezed. Tom again says, we didn't do that and we had our "top" mechanic work on it! Tom your full of it.

STAY AWAY form TOM and GARCIA Subaru!!!!! Take it from and STI owner who has been treated horribly from the service manager TOM!!!!

The bolts seizing in Brembos is a common issue and happens a lot. Invest in heli-coil.

I took my wrx there 2 years ago they charged me 350 bucks for a coolant hose. and gave me a list of things adding up to like four grand that they said needed to be replaced. and since then I have had no issues with any of the things they have told me to replace and that was almost 80,000 miles ago.

Wow - lots of bad experiences with Garcia! I have had the opposite - I had issues with Galles - I bought my car there, but when I had work done, there'd often be little things messed up - they destroyed the hose clamp at the intercooler (tightened it until the worm gear destroyed the band), scratched up my rear hatch when replacing the nameplate (the first one partially fell off), etc. - Garcia has been better, though I did have a minor issue with them once - when my brake pads were replaced under warranty (long time ago, I suppose), they got oil or something on the rotors (not a big deal - just annoying) - they did most everything else just fine, though (I've only dealt with them for warranty work, though - I do most everything else myself - when I have brought it in for work, they were good about getting me a loaner lined up (when I requested it in advance) and were always pleasant to deal with)

I've also dealt with Tom many times, and have always found him to be a good guy - the guys which work the parts counter have also been great. One of the sales staff is on here, too (joscolem).

I do lots of Subaru work in the Abq area and come highly reccomended on camtuning.com. I am also the featured builder on the front page woot woot I would help you out but the problem is that if i did tear the tranny down and fix it, it would blow up again either way so i usually say no. I have a used one i could sell you, or i could sell you a whole 6speed swap i have lying around.
