Exclamation Red Light? What Red Light?

Keep an eye on those traffic signals!

Stacie and I were coming home from a hunter/gatherer expedition (okay, it was just the grocery store). Approaching an intersection going northbound, I saw I'd have to wait for a '90-ish Prelude travelling southbound to get through before I turned left, so I started to slow down.

Keep in mind these are all 30mph limit roads...

As the Honda enters the intersection, a big brand new shiny Dodge Ram travelling westbound blows into the intersection going about 45 or 50mph.

Can you see where this is going?

Honda meets Dodge. The Honda caves in and flies sidways about two car widths. The Ram never even attempted braking. No skid marks, no brake sounds. Completely oblivious.

The wife type got out of the Honda and grabbed the baby girl from the back seat. The husband type had a face and neck full of blood and was very much trapped. The medics had to chainsaw the drivers door off the Honda to get him out... Took him away on a board...

Yikes!

I hope the guy makes it. Crap like that sucks. Please don't tell me it was a stupid ass from suburbia that was holding a latte and a cell phone in each hand and driving with their knee. :monkey:

I remember the worst accident I ever witnessed. Several years ago driving from Portland to Seattle really late at night. Following a Toyota pickup at about two hundred yards in the center lane, just about to cross over the Columbia.
I start thinking about passing the truck on it's right side and begin to accelerate. It's a cliche when they say accidents seem to happen in slow motion, but that's what happens. I notice a flash or red ahead of me on the onramp. A late sixties Mustang (funny, but I noticed the year and primered door right away) leaps over the earth divider between the onramp and the freeway, maybe touches the ground once before hitting the Toyota behind the passenger's door. I know I was going about 65mph and hadn't quite caught the truck yet. The Mustang was going maybe the same (hard to judge).
The truck gets spun over several times (remember the way the cars in the A Team always crashed the same way..there you go)
and the Mustang just disentigrates.
We come to screeching halt and I jump out and run to what's left of the Mustang. The driver's already got the door open and is crawling out. Followed by bottles and cans of beer. I ask him if he's okay and he sort of mumbles. I then run to the Toyota, which had landed on it's wheels. The passenger door is missing and the woman driving is just gripping the wheel, starring straight ahead and not moving. As soon as I ask her if she's okay she starts swinging at me and screaming, "You maniac! You maniac!"
"Lady, I didn't hit you!"

Long story short, both cars, wrecked, both drivers okay, lots of blood though. Mustang driver carted off to jail, it was a stolen car, and I found out later his fifth DUI. A few monthes later I got a nice thank you card from the lady in the Toyota. She didn't remember punching me...

Funny ending. While leaning against a cruiser as the staters did their thing I notice a rather bad smell. I start looking at the bottom of my shoes thinking I'd stepped in something. I get kind of vocal about it, "Do the compost these dividers? I think I stepped in something.....I smell s***." The girlfriend just jabs my arm and points at the Mustang driver who's sitting on the ground holding his head.
It took the cops a half an hour to decide who had to take Mr Crappy pants to jail.

(sorry this turned out so long )

The guy in the truck was kinda... um.... I didn't really like him - he was more worried about his truck and his new $3000 system than the guy he hit...

That totally sucks.

I thought you ran a red and got a ticket.

Hope the guy is ok and gets a big settlement for the other guy's negligence.

Angry almost whacked today

Cruisin home tonight on Lake WA blvd and two suped nasty honda's run stop sign.

1st one cuts me off, 2nd was headin straight for me, if the side of the road wasnt' clear I woulda been screwed. My driving skills saved me but not my front right wheel... Just a bit of curb rash, okay, alot of curb rash- thank god they're just the stock wheels not my new ones.

I'm not sure what's up with folks these days.. If it's rainy they drive crazy and hell if it's sunny they're out to kill ya.

~Glad the subi's okay.~

Worst crash... I didn't witness but my parents did... One of those motorhomes from the 70's hit by a freight train. All my dad would say was that it was the worst thing he had ever seen. Stuff scattered for miles.

speaking of motorhomes. I remember about 9-10 years ago the family was coming back from our place in Chelan. The traffic was stopped on I-90 no way to move anywhere. So we sat there for a half hour and then heard a lound explosion ahead of us. The trafic start moving soon after. Around the bend a motorhome caught fire and exploded from either the propane tank or fuel tank.

Someone sure is in a hateful mood tonight

Hopefully you gave the cops a good report of what happened and then kicked that Ram driver in the nuts. Repeatedly.

Aaron - several of us bystanders took turns holding the mom's baby... she was kinda friekin' out. As far as helping the dad out, he was definitely too bad to move by an untrained person. One lady held his hand for about five minutes until the cops showed up, but that was really all anybody could do.

I stuck around for about an hour until the police were finally ready to take my statement.

It was kinda eye-opening for me. If I would've been two car lengths ahead of where I was, I coulda been smacked...
