There's a guy who has the same name as me, but his middle initial is G, mine is F. We've followed each other around the world, having people mix us up globally.

Sorry to thread jack.... But do any of you guys feel like/have time to, help me get some body panels from japan to me (in US)? If not my only other option that I can seem to find is going through japanparts.com. What I'm looking for seems to be a little more rare than I anticipated but I don't see why it couldn't be easily sourced from a Subaru dealership in the Asian market, possibly used somewhere (but I can't find it, I'm assuming mostly due to lack of demand).

I'm looking for parts for a 2004 forester (sg5); "jdm Sti" front bumper w/ foglight covers, grill and headlight surrounds. I know it's kind of a lot to ask but figured it could be worth a shot as it's kind of a last resort.

Shipping costs are going to really rack up.

Yeah that's one issue I'm having. The parts total from japanparts was $1050.... The shipping total was $1150. I know shipping will be high but I have bought and sold parts overseas before and shipping was way less than what you would expect. I know the bumper being such a large object is mostly the reason for the price but I don't know if they are trying to make money off of it, and perhaps a mark up on parts as well.

I was mainly curious to see if any of you guys (assuming most are there for military) had experience shipping from there to friends or family back home and knew how to cut some costs, and could possibly get the parts from the dealership and send them my way. Another thing driving up the cost of parts is that some of them only show an option for coming painted which about doubles the price of the part. Since I can paint and the colors aren't the same as my car then I could save some money that way by getting them unpainted. If I'm not mistaken the only part I can order from japanparts unpainted is the bumper.

I shipped a rear spoiler, which didn't weight anything at all, but it was $50 because of the size of the box. If it's coming directly from a Japanese vendor, shipping costs will be ridiculous.

Also, if I remember correctly, there's a size limit to shipping out from our PO. Not positive, but maybe someone else has more information.

the scene isn't as big as a few years ago. but we have plenty of suby's running around the island. There are auto cross or gymkhana events atleast once a month.

just don't buy a B4 legacy... there are other suby options.

Alright....here is something I read and I'm planning to do once I have my car running the way it needs to be running. I'm going to buy 2 TD04 turbos, change the turbo housing with the ones off of my legacy, then get the car tuned. From what I read, it's a very doable option for upgrading to bigger turbos. Thoughts? Opinions?

not sure, it would really nice if you just get the single turbo setup... easier to work with and install. Shanes B4 legacy is pretty nice with the VF28 turbo.

i've thought about going that route, but i really want to keep the twin turbo for now. if this doesnt pan out, or if i keep running into issues, i may go the single turbo route.

From what I've read, which wasn't a whole lot, everything should work. All you have to do is swap the turbo housing and go from there.

but even for the TD04 turbos.. they are still small compare to the VF22/23/28/29/30 single turbos.

Cubic Feet per Minute, flow rate.
this determined by the combination of the compressor and
exhaust turbine wheel. more by the compressor wheel than
exhaust turbine.
