Default JDM Projector HID wiring ...

Ok I'm currently running the JDM non-HID projectors in my 02 WRX. Now before anyone gets defensive, I'm getting them retrofitted so I can run HIDs properly. I'm trying to think everything through before I do anything. I'm not familiar with HID wiring, so I have some questions. Obviously, I would need the an H1 HID kit, but since the stock wiring set up is for 9007, how are you supposed to connect the low/high beam to my current 9007 female connector? As of now, I'm using Lightwerkz non-HID harness. With HIDs installed, I would still need to utilize this harness for my high beams, but with this harness installed, there would be no where to connect the HID low beam...

I'm really confused! Hope this made sense...

No, you are not running proper retrofitted HID's, so be prepared to wear your flame suit at all times. The only proper HID capsules are the following: D1R, D1S, D2R, D2S, D4R, and D4S. You see how they are all start with the "D"? H1 type is for halogen bulbs (hence the "H"). So you are just running a HID conversion kit. The term "retrofitting HID" means removing your current light emitting medium (reflector or projector) and replace it with another light emitting medium (most likely a projector). Throwing a HID kit does not mean retrofitting.

Now... to answer your question... IF you are running your H1 "retrofitted" HID KIT (which I highly object), then all you really need to do is to take out the H1 bulb and slap on the fugly HID kit in. Nothing needs to be done there.

If you are planning to do a retrofit, then you will need to build another wiring harness for it. Remember, for better light expectancy of the HID ballast and bulb, make sure you wire the harness so that your low beams stays on when your high beams are on. Another thing is to unplug the DRL connector below the glove box to ensure you won't get any flickering effect from the DRL module.

I've tried H1 JDM headlights. I've tried H1 HID JDM headlights. I can tell you they are NOT road safe. They may seem fine to you, but many of my friends complain to me about the glare that my improper HID kit gave out. And if you adjust them so you won't blind oncoming users as much, you lose a lot of visibility. So if you do plan on putting HID kit into your non-HID JDM headlights, please don't be self-righteous and claim that your HID won't do harm to others, because they do... You increase your visibility by decreasing their's...

^Wow really good info, didn't know it to that extent. I always knew that running the JDM non-HID projectors with an HID "kit" was a bad idea since the projectors are not meant for HID and also it's RHD. But I always thought after retrofitting new projectors (like TSX) would make it safe/beneficial to use....

It would be safe and beneficial if you change out the projector for a set of OEM HID projectors like the TSX.

The TSX uses a D2S bulb. You would need a set of D2S bulbs. I would recommend a set of Philips 85122 bulbs.

For ballasts get a set of OEM ones not cheap ones for a kit. If you want to go for authenticity many Nissans and Infinitis in the US use the same ballasts as the JDM V7 lights. They are Matsu$hita Gen 2 ballasts. They look like these...

Just make sure all the wiring and the ignitor is there. You can find a set on Ebay for under $100 if you look around. I have gotten two sets on there for around $50 a pair before.

The black ignitor fits inside the headlight. There should be room inside the non HID lights for the ignitor just like the HID ones, but I am not 100% certain.

^See that's what I meant in my original post... I'm planning on getting my projectors retrofitted with TSX projectors. I just didn't know that they used D2S bulbs, I thought it would still be H1.
