Default My Own - 205 - 18g - E85 - 1/8th Mile Times

So I'm done clogging a couple of other threads with my times - I'll start my own as I plan on a return while actually running the proper boost.

Basic set -
2002 WRX
EJ205
My concept of a Td05H-18g 7cm2
110k miles on 205
JDM V8 6mt - 3.90 R160 rearend
225/45-17 Yokohama All Seaons
3249? Something to that effect - Car weight without me in it - full tank of fuel
I weight 185lbs
Tire pressure 26psi

Ambient was 78*F Humidity was 65% Track temp was 115*F My Intake Air Temps were 105-110*F... TMIC Temp (checked with temp laser thingy) was 130*F..

Best time of the night:
R/T 1.2750
60ft 1.6659
330ft 4.9290
ET @ 594 ft 7.1330
1/8th ET 7.6231
1/8mph 91.81

I had traction problems off the line - I have no DCCD Control.

I had everything setup for the runs to be @ or around 25psi - Unfortunately do to my ignorance I had major boost issues until the last run (still not good)

Run listed:
1-3rd gear 18-19psig
4th 22.5psig

Since fixed but yet to run:
1-3rd 23-24psig
4th 24-25psig

Track is not the best track - slightly uphill (no ****) - good prep - just poor tarmac.

Anyway I plan on returning either this Friday or next - and if all goes well and I get the times I would like - I will be going to Gateway International in St. Louis to the 1/4 mile to actually have some full numbers..

As a quick reference - the car with the boost ran at the track made 320whp and 290wtq in 4th gear - Airboys spreadsheet

With the boost it is running now and should have been then -

368whp and 358wtq in 4th gear... Same spreadsheet - same day - same road - same correction values - ect.

Should be interesting to see the difference - as I believe I might become traction limited..

Slip:

No video this time - but next time I will have a video of it.

-Jerod

UPDATE!!!!

7/31/09 Coles County Dragway (again)

Traction was POOR - two pretty bad wrecks throughout the night (Both Mustangs)
Ambient was 88*F
Track temp was around 100*F
Atmospheric Pressure - 14.14psi
Humidity - 78% (Boo)

Same Car - Same Setup
My Fiance wanted to go with and she rode on every ride
Total weight courtesy of the local Grain Leg 3480lbs (that was race weight minus about 1/2 gallon) (NO She only weighs 105lbs, but she had her suitcase for a damn purse and some other crap in the car and the child seat minus the child)

Best run of the night:

RT: .5710 (.500 is Perfect )
60ft: 1.6212
330ft: 4.8760
594ft: 7.0773
1/8th: 7.5682
MPH: 91.65

I think the trap was down because of added weight vs previous high traps. A 2009 Mustang GT with 400 miles on it spun twice and hit a wall. There were 2 blown engines and a notchback lost it into a wall right before my last run. Track was SLICK and I mean SLICK. I entered the opposite lane during one run @ the end of 2nd gear.

I will say my good run there was very little tire spin...

Video is being uploaded of a 7.7 @ 91mph run..

Going to Gateway Aug. 14th for Midnight madness (1/4 mile and it will hopefully be colder out!! )

Your 02 WRX weighs 3249??? Is that due to the 6MT?

6 speed weighs every bit of 130-150lbs more than the 5 speed. I had my tool bag in the trunk and my laptop/inverter and some other things..

Weighed in at the Local Grain facility on the way to the track - I took off 11lbs for fuel driving to the track - according to fuel weight and guesstimated mileage...

-Jerod

I weighed it prior to the 6 speed with an empty tank and it was 3060 - Same place almost out of fuel and no tool bag or laptop stuff.

Engine out - tranny in - engine in is the only way i was having it...

I could pick the 5 speed up and toss it in the bed of the truck - took two of us to get the 6 speed out...

I have a few tricks up my sleeve for the 1/4 - but I want to run the 1/8th again and see if my newly found (not really new) power helps get my 60ft's down and my ET down...

The DS is even heavier - flywheel was probably 5-8lbs heavier - clutch was heavier - shifter was heavier... haha Nothing about the 6 speed is light ...

Jerod. take the tire pressure down to 20 psi and blip right around 6k. Im not sure if I have told you this, but its how I launch and tell others under 400whp to launch as well. A quick slip dump at 6k should get you going well with that type of power on an airboy. By numbers you obviously already have a feel for launching, so i wouldnt be surprised to see a 1.55-1.59 60ft from you

I played with LC all night - First runs were HOT and boost was only creeping to around 18psi (long story - I was essentially at 0% wgdc on almost all of my runs - just boosting off creep) So my my logs of my LC MRP were around 2-3psi... Last night I did an LC and sorta not launch and made almost 21psi off the line - of course there was tire smoke and me almost facing the wrong direction and what not. (Closed course on private property that is totally legal do this type of thing on)

I started at 4k and worked my way up to 6k that night - with only 2-3psi 6k was were it needed to be... at 21psi and 6k it just does a narly smoke show and makes me nervous..

I'll have to re-mess with it...

good luck man. But from my experience 1/8th times are not important to NASIOC only 1/4th counts . You know there is no professional 1/8th drag racing and why do they bother to build 1/8th tracks I think they run out of pavement or something. 1/4th shows the true potential , never mind lets build 1/2th tracks, now we are talking!

With your 1/8th ET you should have run a 11.9 worst case scenario

Also, I think DS1 or Andrewtech said that the 6 speed is only 75 lbs heavier than the 5 speed.

Theres no way... The center diff itself is probably heavier than the 5mt lol...

Who knows I know I couldn't even begin to lift it by myself and I picked up the 5 speed no problem

First 1/8th is driver 2nd 1/8th is car.....

i agree with you completly. I feel that 1/8th mile is deff driver and 1/4 is power. The 1/8th contains the 60ft and the 330 witch is big time on a 6speed car (sti) . If you dont shift fast enough 1-2 your 330 will suffer and it will show big time. and just to help you out even more here is what your car would have been around if it still pulled up top. this is with a shift into 5th.

1/8 is where all the action happens in a 6mt for the subaru. some cars even make it into 5th before the 1/8 and just ride it out to the 1/4.

for the average subie owner the back 1/8 of the 1/4 is just one more shift. the run's already over past the 1/8.

I'm @ 6k rpms in 4th by the end of the 1/8th... If the extra power puts me up and beyond 4th gear I will just stretch it out and raise my fuel cut...

I highly highly highly doubt 50whp will pick up 12-13 mph in the 1./8th lol..

I'd be happy with 4-5mph

Went back tonight with less than acceptable results lol...

Track prep was either poor or the car is making a considerable amount more power off the line...

Best run of the night:

R/T .6757 (.500 being a perfect light btw)
60ft 1.7344
330ft 4.972
594ft 7.134
1/8th 7.6513
mph 92.23

^^ Best run of the night with the least amount of tire spin (which was absolutely ridiculous)

Worst (lol)
R/T 1.00 (was concentrating on the launch)
60ft 3.022
330ft 7.07
594ft 9.414
1/8th 9.9248
MPH 88.09

^^ That run I sat at the line spinning for 75% of the 3 seconds.... (not lying wish I had a video it was pretty ridiculous)
Almost hit the wall after I started moving - 2nd gear spun for another 10-20ft and I let off at the 594 line as I was pissed off...

Still beat the guy I was running by 1.5 seconds hahah

I had absolutely no consistency in my runs - spinning was uncontrollable on a few runs - Temp was way cooler and I failed at driving decent tonight...

A bunch of us are heading down to Gateway a week from this Tuesday to hit up the 1/4 and have a decent track. I didn't take a video camera - I wish I would have so everyone could see how horrible the track is - But I guess if I get to Gateway and run similar times it will be time for the Driver Upgrade....Or making more power to make up for the lack of my driving abilities.

Perks of the night - the guys in the 04 Mustang GT and 6.0 GTO that were making fun of me with my hood open - making fun of "rice burners" were both not happy when I ran 2 full seconds faster than the Mustang and 1.5 seconds faster than the GTO (automatic - WITH traction...)

Good times

-Jerod

Things to take into consideration - And I should fix before making judgments -

I have the stock hood scoop/splitter/shroud with my STI top mount (yea yea I know)
My turbo has no shield or wrap right now (Again I know )
I'm running an STI top mount..... (really think bigger/better would help things out a bit)

Best was
1.708 60ft
7.73 1/8 @88.78
11.98 @ 117.47 1/4

somehow ended up being the fastest street car there

Mustang boys werent Happy with me at all

Nice... I do need something - I need a scoop/wrapped turbo/heatshield and get off my lazy ass and port/polish my spare manifold...

I wish I had a video of me almost loosing it into the wall...

On another side note - a kid brought his 750/650 Supercharged (year?) SS 408 Camaro - SMOKING 26" slicks all the way down the track to a 7.22 (best run of 6.85)

Crazy **** - he was impressed with my car and I was drooling on his...

Jerod,

Your car is starting to move man. Nice driving, get that down to a 1.6 and 11's will be commonplace for you

maybe - hopefully I can pick up a scoop and splitter this week and get it painted - but I've been considering a front mount and leaving the stock scoop (price difference will be negliable when I sell the STI top mount...)
