Default Tyrant (FX)

I was impressed by the pilot.

Looks like they aren't holding back on playing up a lot of the issues that plague the politics and culture of many middle eastern countries.

It's worth giving this series a shot in my opinion.

First ep was OK. Critics seem to be ho hum. And the evilness of the brother when it comes to women seems to be a tad much for the US. Don't know how true it is.

I think FX has hit it out the park with all their shows such as "The Bridge", "Tyrant" and "The Americans" so I believe this series should be really good.

Brutal towards women for sure.

But probably pretty accurate. Read up on the Sultan of Brunei and his brothers.

A good flick that depicts that sort of thing is "The Devil's Double".

Agreed, I only wonder if this is going to be a single season show, too soon to tell how much material they have for it.

They have lots of options.

For example
Season 1: Jamal becomes the tyrant king, imprisons Barry & family in the palace
Season 2: Barry starts sneaking out of the palace, meeting with rebels
Season 3: Barry becomes close to Jamal, sees being a tyrant works at times, kills Jamal
Season 4: Barry becomes the new king, gives people more freedom, many religious clashes
Season 5: Barry realizes the only way to stop the violence is to be a tyrant king

Don't forget Fargo, Louie, and Sons of Anarchy.

FX is doing it right.

Y'all forgot the Shield? Especially Kostamojen. The Shield is what convinced AMC that they could do bolder programming.

The reviewers really dislike this show, and the fact that they're complaining about the lead being boring doesn't make me want to watch even though FX has a reputation for quality.

pretty amazing show so far. I just watched the first two episodes back to back tonight and I'm hooked.

I thought fox had a good show with Gang Related, but that novelty wore off about half way through the second episode.

That was very good.

I'm not really feeling it from any of the characters yet, but the story and pacing is great.

I don't think this show is what people might think it is. Take a step back and see what's going on:

It's a night time soap!

I believe the way this story is structured, there is plenty of room to milk that cash cow (if it proves to be one). It's based around a family power struggle of sorts. Well, it's definitely one if you count his Uncle. I'm pretty sure that's what Dallas, Knots Landing and Dynasty were all based around.

Add the fact that there can be plenty of little subplots for each character. Barry's ex. is his brother's wife? His son might be gay in an Islamic country? His daughter hasn't even played her role yet.

I gave the new Dallas a shot, but ultimately got tired of it. If they can keep the ridiculous soap factor down, I'll stick with this for a while. Looks interesting so far.

This show officially sucks.

Every episode is worse than the last.
