I've been following along with this "story" through this thread, and I get it, but part of me thinks its just ridiculous and taken a little too seriously. But hey, I'm the guy who doesn't see a huge problem with PEDs in pro sports, so what do I know?

It's a digression for sure, but have clear standards. If you're going to do a video review, make everyone do it. It's like drug testing the first place guy, he fails, and the second place guy doesn't get tested, he just wins. It's not even logical. Clear and fair standards, enforced regularly. General rule of thumb from (good, respectable judges in) powerlifting is that the benefit of the doubt goes to the lifter, unless it's a world record. Powerlifting is no better, in fact it's worse, with good 'ole boy clubs, fragmented federations, and general silliness. It's not the sport, it's people. Again, ugh.

If you're asking, every lift I've ever done was perfect, I've never taken any performance enhancing substances, and I help the needy in my spare time. If you're recording me, or testing me... maybe slight differences...

I agree. I hate that he had a video posted that wasn't meant as a score submission and got lambasted for it. Makes you wonder how many of the other affiliate-validated scores would be rejected had there been a video. But that's the downside of an open competition that has 120,000 people signed up I guess. It's not a perfect system.

I wasn't really referring to the rules and standards, I'm just talking about the aftermath. I think some are taking it way more seriously than it needs to be taken.

What people have learned from all of this is to not video their WODs. Slop, crap, and garbage will still happen. There just wont be a video of it.

Josh's performance was still impressive. I would call it a bit a sloppy in an attempt to save time and maximize reps, but that is the name of the game. You do whatever you can get away with if you want to compete at the top of anything. It isn't cheating, its pushing the limits.

If anything, the judge shoulders more of the responsibility than the athlete. Now that new parameters have been set, you work within them. Josh will be there next year if he sticks with CF.

Hope he does. The guy is a freak.

For being a coach at that gym, lvl 1 cert. I'd hold him to higher standards and he should know better.

Yes, but like we say in powerlifting (regarding the squat), if you get 3 white lights, it means you squatted too deep. You want to maximize your performance. That's going to mean blurring the line between efficiency and "cheating" or whatever you want to call it. Hence things like kipping pullups, etc allowed. It's about busting stuff out. A good competitor will always push the envelope. It's normal. The powerlifting world just about crapped itself when Fred Hatfield had his spotters remove the squat stands instead of him walking the weight out -people were incensed! The rules did not say it was illegal though. People do whatever it takes to succeed -that's why they say that health goes out the door when competition comes in.

Anyway, just not a great way for it to come about. That's all. I'll go back to the other thread.

C'mon... most interesting thing that has happened involving moving weights in awhile. Its good stuff. I would buy Josh a beer and tell him better luck next year. Shake this one off, have some fun, get back to training.

Hell, its just CF. It isn't like he's trying to pass a Federal Budget.

I'm not anti crossfit. I just have had a lot of experience with total douchbags that pretend like it's gods' gift to strength training. It's not. Nor is strength training god's gift to conditioning, lol. I don't really care. I just like lifting weights.

So looks like Josh did the workout again yesterday even though it will not count since the submission is already closed. here he got 380 but i will let you be the judge if he met the standards or failed again:

No way. That just limits participation. Everyone can start the workout as written, but it takes a serious motor and skill to get deep into the muscle ups.

Common sense says use glycogen for anaerobic movements and fat stores for aerobic movements, not the other way around. Doing muscle ups when you're already exhausted is a recipe for injury. This is the #1 gripe people have with crossfit.

Yeah but in 12 minutes the huge majority of athletes aren't even going to get to the muscle ups. It's a non issue for them, yet they were still able to participate in the open. There is gonna be a ton of 240 scores.

What is lame about it is they are repeating the workout from last year.

I am with Neek. If they started with the muscle ups, you would have thousands of zero on the score board since most people can't do a single one let alone 30. Last year, the muscle up were the seperator and like neek said , most of the scores were 240.

As for repeating the same workout, I like it. It gives people a really good opportunity to see how much they grew in the past year.

It's a gymnastic movement. The chance for injury is not great. That's like saying if you do a pull up or dip tired, you'll get injured.

No where Crossfit fails is 50 snatches or deadlifts because that's simply retarded. Complex, weighted movements that require significant skill and coordination. A workout like Randy is just plain stupid because Olympic movements were never intended to be completed at those sort of repetitions.
