people use CF for all kinds of things: sports, military prep, and mainly just to get in good shape. I wouldnt call it a sport.

This. I'm planning to start up end of this month, after state raquetball tournament, yet I'm battling a bad shoulder. I can afford to mess it up more and I imagine how CF won' wreck me.

Hmm, pull ups, thrusters, hand stand push ups. Nah, you shouldn't have anything to worry about your shoulder.

Pull ups don't bother me. I'm back up to mid upper 20's. Everything else I see is killing my shoulder.

Dude, you would love KStar's mobility Wod. This guy puts up a fantastic stretching/mobility exercise to do daily (takes 4-10 minutes) generally geared towards that day's mainsite workout. Since I've been taking care of my rhomboids properly and opening up my shoulders better, my shoulders have never felt better. I'm now 3 months out from the cortisone and my shoulders still feel terrific.

Check it out, even if you don't do Crossfit, especially you:

I got cortisone ... took 2 weeks off ... played 2 days in a row and now my shoulder is killing me. I stretch, I get therapy, and I've been using a foam roller which is awesome. But at this point I'm willing to try anything.

I'm not sure if what I have is a simple "-itis" or the beginning of a tear.

Yikes, find out if you are slightly torn before going further. Don't want a SLAP if you can avoid it or something.

Hush your mouth!!!!

I seriously have no clue what it is and neither does the ortho. Most days I can hit the gym with no pain or restrictions. I have no positive tests, full ROM and strength. However sometimes the pain wakes me at night and affects other ADL's. After a full day of tournament play I'm at 7/10 pain.

You know the shoulder is funny like that. It's plain hard to pin it down sometimes.

Most unstable joint in the body.

I asked my buddy a few times, "I'm not crazy for being here right?" He said I can tell you what it is after an MRI.

You'll have to pick and choose your workouts if you do Crossfit.

Yeah I've trying a couple moves here and there. But for right now I've got one last tournament to concentrate on. March 19-20 and then it's back in the gym likes it my job.

I only use it as a workout. I just started in Jan. and I LOVE it. I have no intentions of ever doing cross fit games or anything like that I just go in and workout hard. Try the three classes....you should def know after that if you want to continue with it. A regular gym can do the same thing for you IMO if you don't use your cell phone/talk to others/rest for 6 mins between sets/ etc. I am not that disciplined (mainly bc I work at a regular gym and know all the members so they like to chat) thus CF helps me take intensity to a whole new level.

I'm all over the place. Usually on my right side and sometimes I end up on my belly. When I do that's the position that usually wakes me when I'm laying on my bad shoulder or it stretched out. I use a body pillow now which helps prop my shoulder but once I'm asleep all bets are off.

I ask because I have shoulder instability issues. It's usually remedied by staying strong but I have occasionally sublexed it while sleeping. I read that sleeping on your stomach was a potential cause and have since forced myself to sleep on my back or side and noticed improvements in my shoulder and lower back health.

Been out of the loop the last 2 months while working away from my project. Went to the gym 4-5 days a week but I definitely feel out of shape compared to when I was doing xfit. Just never got around to finding a local gym while I was home. But, back to the project next week, excited to get back in the mix and see where I've fallen off from moving back into my old workout.

Good workout to get back into the swing of things last night.
Started with Snatch skill work for ~20mins which was good since I've never had great form with that.
Next for the workout portion we did:
2x50m Broadjumps (minimize jumps to complete the distance)
5x15 Burpees (1min break between each set, minimize overall time)
4x30sec Weighted Plank Holds (30 sec break between each set)

got 24/24 Broadjumps, 7:34 Burpees and 25,35,35,50lbs on the Planks

I thought I could do better on the Burpees but I hadn't been doing many pushups during my offtime and definitely felt it hurting after the 3rd set. Also could have done more on the Planks but felt a pinch in my lower back and didn't want to push it.

Jeez, all this lingo is like another language to me. I need to start reading up on things. I'm a complete noob to this stuff. I walked in to speak to the guy last week, signed up, and tonight is the second class of the 3 day/week, 3 week fundamentals course.

It's pricey though... $200 for the 3 week course, then $135 monthly after that.

Donzo - stay with it. I don't do "crossfit" but I train in much the same way - myself and my clients. It's a brand name on cross-training with bad-ass functional movements in exercise, that's all. But I'm sure there's nothing quite like it where you are, especially for the money. I'm telling you, that's cheap and well worth the investment.

Give it 3 months, minimum and tell me you wouldn't drop $400+ if you could lay the money on the table and look and feel the way you will after breaking yourself each and every workout in that environment.

Are you going to Crossfit White Plains? I plan on doing a 3-stop NY Crossfit tour over my 10 day trip. 1st, Crossfit Gotham City, then 2nd Crossfit Hell's Kitchen, and last from Dec. 15-20 at Crossfit White Plains. It'll be fun!

No, I was going to go in White Plains since it's close to work but a box just opened up literally within walking distance from my house. It's brand new so not many people are joined up yet but a buddy and I signed up together. So far it's fun and totally new from anything that I'm used to... which is good. I was in a rut and dreading going to the gym after years of doing the same stuff. I needed something new and this seems like a great fit. It's geared more towards athleticism as opposed to picking things up and putting them down. I'm 5'6 215 lbs... I'd like to get down to 185 since I'd rather not look like a fire hydrant my whole life.
