Default 2002 WRX power mods that don't void warranty

my cousin wants to do some power mods to his WRX but doesn't want to void his warranty. What are a few good things he could do? What exhaust gives the best performance increase and sounds decent (don't want something that sounds like someone is letting an intense fart rip)? Thanks in advance.

No modification voids your warranty. They can choose not to cover a particular failure however if they find that it caused it.

Unichip with TurboXS harness and mbc is a good one that will not leave a trace and can be removed very easily.

Default Warranty and Aftermarket Parts

We get the "will this void my warranty" question about 5 times/day so I thought I'd use this thread to post some "public service announcement" type info.

The SEMA website (www.sema.org) has some great information on warranty and aftermarket modifications. Here are some pertinent links:
Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act
Warranty Denial

If you are modifying your car (which is only about 99.99% of i-club members ), you should read these and know your rights.

yeah like they said when you install a part that part only voids "its own warrenty" unless the dealer can prove that the mod you added caused some kind of failure....good mods are exhaust, intake, unichip with the harness, and minor stuff....you cant have youre cake and eat it too... unless you just save all the stock parts and change em out when you need warrenty work.

In Subaru's own words. Installing after market parts will not void the warranty on the car. However if an aftermarket part is found to be the cause of the problem then that repair would not be covered. I fell this is an easy way out for them. Lets say my transmission blows, they can say that the extra power added by my Cold Air Intake caused it to blow and not cover the part. In short do what you want with the car but make sure that everything can easily be returned to stock in the (likely) event something breaks. I had a 5.0 mustang as my last car and the dealer couldn't give a s**t what you did to the car short of nitrous or a supercharger. That is the way it should be with a performance car. They say that abusive driving will void the warranty. What did we all buy a 227hp performance car to do, drive it like a K Car? With Ford you buy it, beat on it, and know they will fix it. With Subaru, we buy it, beat on it, and pray they will fix it. Also some Subaru dealers will not even look at a car that has had mods done to it.

thanks for the info, I thought the subaru warranty policey would be similar to my GM warranty but my cousin insisted that they were tougher on modifications.

So, back to the real question, what exhausts will give good increases and what online retailers sell the above mentions parts. Thanks.

Default don't mean to be rude but, ...

do a search, there's 'Lots' of opinions on exhausts,

.... and maybe soon there will be a nice dyno comparison of some of them.

My indiglo gauges added at least 15 horsepower. When they're on the light green setting I actually get some torque too

Oh ohh, and don't forget the really gaudy chunky style chrome wheels. That is about a 20 hp difference right there. Might be a difference in the wrong direction , but they still "add" to the performance equation.

IT's entirely up to the dealer. If you have a mod friendly dealer in your area, go ask them.

Typically if you can find a dealer that will handle mods, they will not touch anything that is illegal on the street unless you bring the car on a trailer, at which point your not that concered about your warrentee anyway.

Also a mod freindly dealer will not install mods that will configure the car illegaly for the street.

good luck
