Ok, Everyone I need your help for my next purchase….
I have a 2005 WRX with 17” Prodrive P1 wheels (bolt pattern 5 X 100mm, and I also have the car lowered with Prodrive springs which lowers the car approximately 20mm taken from Prodrive’s website. My question is what tire size would you recommend for an all season tire? I currently have the Toyo Proxes 4 in stock size 225/45 but would like to go wider..... Would you recommend 235/45 or a different size… ....?I’m looking for a tire that will give me optimum performance but also want and like the wider tire look… ..!!!!Also from some research that I did and reading the test results between several different tires from Tire Rack, I found that the All Season Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus had the best scores regarding, traction, cornering, steering response etc. They look like the way to go….What do you guys think, and is there a better All Season tire that you would recommend…???? Thanks in advance for your input… ..!!!!!

Isn't the P1 17x7"? If so, you can't go wider than 225/45/17. Your rim is not wide enough for a wider tire.
As for all seasons, they all suck. Two sets will be substantially better in all conditions. That said, I like the Bridgestone 960 A/S. |

Yes, you are correct; the P1 is 17x7. I thought that i could at least go up to 235/45..!! So you are saying they will not fit wider tires, darn, I’m disappointed now.... ![]() |

235/45/17 is 32.2% wider than a 7.0" rim. You shouldn't go over 30% for 45 sidewall. That said, you really don't want 235/45/17, it's too tall. Stock is ~25" and 235/45/17 is 25.3" tall. Not a big deal in general but the WRX gearing is pretty tall already. The 235/40/17 tire is 24.4" which shortens your gear ratio some. Note though that 40 sidewall shouldn't be pushed more than 20% wider than the rim so if you want to run 235/40/17 you'd need at least 8.0" of rim width. Also 235 is wider than STi size. You can get rubbing mattering on offset and suspension.

I appreciate all the info, and you are right....I also talked to Tire rack and they told me that for my rims the widest i can go is 225/45, so i think i will stick with that size....oh well, i guess the wider look will have to be dumped for now since i'm not looking to purchase new wheels any time soon......Thanks again for all the info..... ![]() |
