Default The HTA68: Not a bad little turbo

Had a chance to strap the HTA on today and have Junior @ The Shop in Norwalk, CT tune the car. The conditions were absolutely horrible, 78 degrees and 90% humidity. Even though fighting heat soak, the results were exactly what I wanted out of this turbo.

Ill have graphs up tomorrow, but on 93 pump the car made 13 less whp peak than my stocker on racegas but made 6 more whp up top. The area under the curves are about the same, making this a solid 114 mph car on pump. The best thing about the power holding out so well is that at the track I will now hold off on shifting 5th. At 7300 I make around 25 more whp than the stocker (RG).

A picture perfect pass would probably be right around 11.80's on str8 93 pump.

On the 2.5ltr, no spool is lost on the dyno there is a 1 or 200 rpm difference (vf-hta) but on the street you dont even notice.

This was on 21psi, we had it up to 24 but the tmic was so hot it didnt like it. The stock tmic, if you want to push this turbo, is actaully a limiting factor. You could not even touch the thing after a few pulls.

I dont want to give actual dyno numbers as I will do an airboy tomorrow morning.

This turbo is really cool, you dont even know the stocker has been swapped until you realize it just keeps pulling out past 7k.

50k miles compression :145 135 145 135

Spearco and meth this week. Next weekend racegas + meth tune and the track This turbo will do mid 11's if all goes well when turned up, while still remaining an auto-x monster!!!!!

Once again, thanks to Junior and Jimmy for their sponsered time as well as dyno time.

I hate you

My car weighs 3430 w/me in it, with interior and wing gone. Give me 3100lbs like the 3 faster stock turbo STi's in front of me

On another note, your coming up here possibly i hear?

Nice Mikey!! I just always assumed this turbo would be a great WRX upgrade from a TD04 but marginal gains for an STI? Are you still on the stock injectors?

I have my other plots in the road dyno thread. When I went 12.0, I made 337 @ 5200 and made 300 @ redline. Now I make 336 and carry it to redline. Along with this I am 100lbs lighter and have a light weight pulley.

Hot and humid today, not even optimisticly speaking, this graph would do 350 in 65 degree weather.

I really do like this turbo, but the tmic is killing it. Spearco tonight!!!!!!

Update: Finally got romraider working properly in the car. The spearco was put on and I turned the boost up from 20ish to 22.75lbs. It holds 19.5 at redline. Got everything in line this evening, did 4 dyno logs per the airboy software.

For some reason the program is not calculating a graph. Ive never had problems with it before. Anyways,
another 2.25psi and a better TMIC, im curious to see numbers. I do know one thing, the car feels great. My MAF is close to maxed, on pump gas, 4.9 volts. No knock, no correcting. 5k miles on it now, its def a good turbo.

I dont believe anyone else is running more than 20psi on pump, but she really seems to like the 22.75lbs.

This is the graph from when Junior went 12.02.
I do not have the graph from when I went 12.01 anymore, but they are literally identical till 6400, I make a flat 310 instead of 300.

Would this be my best bet if auto-x is my main focus and I want a good gain from the stock turbo?

I think it would be your best bet by a mile. The car feels no different than stock way down low. You can give it gas @ 2200rpm and your moving. This turbo is not the end all turbo solution, but if you want 11 second speed, for cheap, and still be nasty on the auto x or road course, this is the turbo for you my friend.

Wow this is AWESOME! Get to the track Mikey!

What kind of mph do you think you will hit with a bigger TMIC on racegas?

yes thats is his race gas map, thats how the VF series turbos work they have a ton of TQ in the low end because they are so small but at top everything goes south.

if you read Surgeline Tuning's thread. You'll know.

Its more comparable to the 20g.

Do a search.

Haha, yeah, i've gone almost 4 months laid off and I finally landed a job as a manufacturing engineer for a company called Luvata. Thank God I saved previously, and thank God for unemployment.

Anyway, if you end up with this turbo make sure you do some headers and an up-pipe as well as an intake. A kid came in with stock everything other than the turbo. He made 30 less through the entire power band.

To the track it is tomorrow, I hope everything goes well and there are no difficulties with the car.

93 pump gas, 3395lbs with me in it. HAHA, only another 396 lbs to break 2999
