Default Want to know what you think......

Ok so I just picked up my 2007 STI and I am about to pick up some wheels for it but I know the width of this tire might be to much.

This is what it will look like

The dimensions are 18x9.5 Rota Grid - Flat Black (5x114.3/e38/73)

Will I need coilovers and what size tire will I need to run? Thanks for any help.

You can always ask the owner of that car. I was told I needed coilovers, negative camber front and rear, and rolled or cut fenders to run those rims. Not sure about tire but they look like 255, 265's?

If you want to know, then you should probably call Wheel Dude. They can help you out and let you know what you will need to do to your car to fit those wheels.

If you want 255 wide tires, Rota sells some 18x8.5" +48 rims that can handle those just fine. You won't need coilovers either.

I guess Im just confused on how tires work cus in the pic thats a 255 tire on a 9.5 rim but yet you say a 255 fits on an 8.5 rim. Its like you can put a small ass tire on a bigger rim or big ass tire on a smaller rim. I want to have that exact rim with a 245 tire. Im just confused. I never knew wheels could be this hard lol.

Its not hard. The wider the rim the bigger the tire you use. 245's on that 9.5 rim will be stretched quite a bit depending on tire brand. I have 245's on my 9'' rims and they are slightly stretched.

This is my old evo on 245/40/18 tires Rota 18x9.5 P45R's, same size rim and tire u want. See the sidewall stretch. 255 will be more flush with the edge of the rim. Best bet is to go 255 with 9.5 rim

18x9.5 +38 with a 255/35 tire... I'd say the least you'd need in terms of suspension are camber plates.

Body work would be a rear fender pull and maybe a front fender roll.

With the stock suspension it might rub on hard corners since it's quite soft.

I have 18x9 +29 with 265/35 tires. It fits with camber and body work but you'll need some stiff ass springs for it not to rub.

sigh...

255/35/18 fits 8.5" to 10.0" width
9.5" rim fits 245/35/18 to 285/30/18

These things have ranges. Ideal is a relative term. If you want a 245 or 255 wide tire, there's no reason to buy a low offset 9.5" rim. If you want to put a 275 or 285 wide tire, you are in for some serious serious modification to the car. Something's got to give here. Do you want a superfluously wide and far out rim for looks? If so, stick to 245. Do you want 255 tire width without serious work? If so, buy a reasonable width/offset rim. Do you want to fit massive tire widths? If so, your rim is fine but your car needs work.
