Default OT: Worcester to Hartford.

Just got a possible job offer for a gig in Hartford, and I planning on moving to Worcester in June. So my question is what kind of a commute is it running from Worcester to Hartford?? I've heard an hour, which is about what I'm doing now. Anyone have any idea of what kind of commute this is gonna be, and if its worth taking the job and doing it??

If you have a detector and you know where the traps are, it can be done in about 45. In a good amount of traffic, an hour sounds about right.

Just be extra-careful going through Manchester. The cops like to hide in two's on the median past the overpass, one with a laser, the other ready to chase.

Look on the median just past the crest of each hill. 90% of the time, that's where they hide. If they feel like being mean, they'll pick a spot, park 3 cruisers, and WAVE people over to get ticketed. You will usually see 5+ cars pulled over at a time when they do this.

A mile or so after you cross the border, there are some doohickies mounted over the road. I'm not sure what they are, and my detector doesn't notice them, but be careful. Perhaps someone should shoot at them with an air rifle and see what happens.

If you plan on moving down here, Bristol's nice, and has some nice nighborhoods at a good price. Windsor's also nice, and about 20 minutes from Hartford up 91.

Where are you going to be working? Morning rush hour into Hartford can set you back like you're trying to get into Logan airport. I've commuted through Hartford many times....usually trying to get somewhere on the other side.....and in the morning it really sucks on 84. If you're in Manchester or up 91, you'll be better off. If you're not yet sure about taking the job, drive the commute some morning at the time you plan to do it when you work there.

Those 'doohickeys' over the road are so the weigh station can tell if a truck tries to bypass the station (in case they couldn't SEE that).

Also, CT has some unmarked new Impalas - they like to sit in the breakdown lane or just off the road like a disabled vehicle.

Don't forget the police camaro's CT state troopers drive. I've seen a blue and a white one pulling people over just over the state line from MA on 91N.

The commute will actually be well over an hour. Hartford traffic sucks arse durring rush hour. The worst part is how one day it will be moving very slow. Then the next day it's at a dead stop.

Are you sure those doohickey's only count trucks? I got clocked at 80 on 95 last summer, and by the time I had seen the cops after the weight station, I had slown down, so they had to have used something to catch me. It's a good thing I slowed down from 90 when I saw the doohickeys, because the ticket cost me $250 anyway! Yarrgh.

Thanks for all the imput guys.

I don't know if I'm gonna take the job, its through the half-azzed contracting company I work for now, and I'm not sure I want to deal with their antics anymore. That and it sounds like I'm gonna have to drive through a military zone every day to get to work, which doesn't sound very fun. I'm not sure exactly where the company is, but I assume it is one of the large insurance companies in downtown Hartford, which would make the journey that much more enjoyable. And I'd be racking up a ton of miles on the poor car. Maybe its time to collect unemployment, hang around in my underwear all day, and write the great American novel?? Time to start stockpiling porn...

Oh yeah, and the past few years they've been using gold Chrysler Sebrings, too. You'd never expect it!
