Default Tire Installation

Ok did I just get ripped off? I just bought some Yoko's S-types for 108 a pop to put on my 06 STI....Great Deal... I think, but to install the tires today you know the typical mount balance and all that good stuff was a 155 dollars. I didnt want to go to Costcos or some garbage place like that because I have heard horror stories...Thanks for the input.

Steve

So you paid an extra $47/tire for installation? Yes you did get ripped off. Most shops here in SoCal charge $12/tire for mount balance. Did you get some sort of road hazard warranty or something?

I paid $109.00 at Discount tire for them to scratch all 4 of my BBS gold rims. I learned my lesson about that place.

Some shops want to charge quite a bit extra if they do the whole "Road Force" balancing on their Hunter balancing machines. You should also check to see if they guarantee the balance, the place I went said if there was any vibration at any speed to bring it back and they will check it out on the balancer again without fee. It is hard to find a good shop that will charge a decent price and still actually work to get the wheels perfectly balanced (at least around where I live).

Thanks for the responses I will never go back to that place what a damn rip off, I was expecting to pay around 60-70 bucks and I see the damn bill for 155. Oh well like one of you mentioned in the post, lesson learned.

ouch, the only time I paid over $100 is when I needed a new set of lugs along with it. (steel lugs where too small for alloys)

I dont know we have a hunter and we road force every tire normally for $15 each. If the tire needs to be forced matched to compensate for excessive road force its part of the cost unless you were a jerk then we charged for the extra labor time, but that was very rare.

Did you ask how much it was going to cost before hand? Did you call around to multiple shops to see what prices were?
