Thumbs up I need GNAWS!!!!!

KNAHHHSSSSSSS!!!!

I checked NOS brand and Zex. Our cars aren't listed in their application chart. I know several of you guys have the Zex kit, so which "kit" is it? or is it just a random zex kit you adapted for our cars? I know of 2 more companies: NX (nitrous express) and Venom. I can't find Venom's website and NX doesn't have much info, so I emailed them. So what's the deal Zex guys? Isn't there something made for GC8?

NAWZZZZZZZ!

I just ordered a NOS kit - I just got the standard import EFI Dry kit part number NOS-05122. I believe it's the same kit that Kevin Thomas ran on his OBS a while back. I recall him having good luck with it, so I went ahead and ordered the same one.

It's not installed yet so I can't give you any solid opinions.

I think that many opt for the ZEX kit due to it's simplicity (it turns on automatically at WOT)

Supapooh installed this kit, check out the thread for more information.

http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthr...those+who+care

The Venom kit is extremely expensive, and requires a laptop to operate (correct me if I'm wrong guys). I believe the price for this kit was around 1100.

Good luck

Question I've got a hankering for GNAWSSSS

thanks for the replies guys,

so supapooh used one of the Honda/Acura Zex kits?

AndyM, are you saying that this 82011 is the correct Zex kit for us? I looked at their site again and it's the same kit for most applications including, honda/acura/hyundai/etc. I guess it just comes with instructions telling you where to attach the hoses, and the rest is up to personal preference (like bottle and switch placement)?

So this is pretty much how it is for NOS and NX too? Get the standard EFI Import kit and rig it for your application?

Concerning price and availability... I've seen in old posts the Zex kit going for around $460, but what are the prices of the NOS (05122, right Hudson?) and the NX kits?

I've pretty much ruled out Venom because of it's price.

Speaking of that wretched movie has anyone noticed how many more people are looking at putting NO systems in their car since it came out? I seem to believe NOS payed for that movie to be made. Can't we consider NO to be something other than forced induction? Perhaps make a "Power in a Bottle" forum for these folks?

And just to set things straight (because this bugs me sooo much): NOS is Nitrous Oxide Systems which is a company that makes notrous kits. NO is short for nitrous, or you can just refer to it as nitrous. I'm not going to pick apart that stupid movie in here, but I will say I used to respect Vin Diesel as an actor before that. Now I know why they killed him first in Saving Private Ryan

Yes the correct chem description of nitrous oxitde is NO2 (N-nitrogen O2-oxygen). What alot of people dont realize is that NOS is an acronym for Nitrous Oxide Systems which is a company, the name has nothing to do with the chemistry of the gas.

Angry ***

Can we have a discussion about "nitrous oxide" on this forum without getting into this stuuuuuupid topic. I asked a question about what "kit" the Zex kit was and then where to find and how much the NX and NOS kits are. Besides, I never said NOS in the subject. I said GNAWWSSSS to be funny. A mod changed it. Not that it matters anyway! When I searched, I found a great post someone made, but can't remember who it was, something like:

If you go to a refill shop and put the bottle on the counter and don't say a word, they will fill it with the right "stuff"!!!!!

thank you, whoever you are...

...anyway, i think we've come to the conclusion that it's about $524 for the NOS, $460 for the Zex, and nobody seems to know what NX costs... anybody?

Question forgot something...

oh, i forgot something...

i came across a new (at least I think it's new) offering from Venom - VCN-1000 (as opposed to VCN-2000), it's like the entry level nitrous kit that isn't programmed by a laptop. I saw it for $600-something somewhere. Anybody know how this compares to the others?

this is how I see it, if you want a turbo (which I did I was going to buy one, and I was so close too, but I didnt) I stopped and thought if I could really afford this, say 3,000 to 4,000 for a good kit, 1,000 + for engine managment, and lets not forget labor, that is if you cant install it yourself. I got nitrous because its cheap for the price, and I can use some of the turbo money I saved up for some saftey switches, and Cobb cam. For a total of 610.00 I got a Zex nitrous system, MSD window switch, 2 sets of RMP pills, and a full bottle filled. I know people say no matter how safe you can be something can go wrong, but that same goes for turbo, just dont push the car to hard see how it reacts to the lower setting and go from there, for some more saftey things if you have some money left over grab a fuel pressure gaue from autometer that way if your activating the nitrous and you notice your fuel pressure is going down let off the nitrous its a great thing to have. Good luck and yes the 82011 is the kit you want trust me it works for our Subarus.

Supapooh is my roommate....
He is running a Zex Dry kit and I am not sure what the #'s are on it though. He is running a WRX fuel pump, SVX fuel pressure regulator, running some different spark plugs and a couple other things. One suggestion is to beef up the clutch if you are going to go nitrous. He started out with a 55 shot and then progressed to 65 and then to 75. He has probably ran a good dozen plus bottles and the thing still runs great. I on the other hand am running a ZEX WET kit at the moment with the similar mods. I am only running a 55 shot on a 2002 RS and it is satisfactory for what i need. I could run more but my clutch is pretty much toasted. Not from the nitrous but from making the grave mistake of actually letting my girlfriend try to learn how to drive in my car. I never knew how talented she was at destroying the clutch...overall I do like the Zex kit in both the dry and wet form though, although the wet kit is a safer path to go i believe...
