Default Planning on Attending Rally de Espaņa 2009, Looking for Some Insight

Not sure if this is in the right place, if not, mods, please move.

Has anyone been before? Can you give me any advice? I've never been to a WRC event before, so I don't really know what to expect.

I'm planning on staying in Barcelona and renting a car at the moment, but that is not set in stone. If anyone has anything they want to share, or feel is at all relevant, please do.

Thanks in advance

go. do it. it'll be a big adventure.

if you do the tour yourself, be ready for epic traffic jams getting to and from speccie areas. do not leave anything in your rental car you ever want to see again -- outlying areas around barcelona are notorious for parked car break-ins

think about joining an organized tour, a guide can help you hugely on your first event, probly well worth the $$$. a good tour will have a guide, a bus, and access passes to places where most civilians only dream of going.

We have to hook up. My wife and I are going. Went to Rally Finland in '04. Looking to have a great time!

We booked through http://www.ultimaterallyworld.com ... just as we did for finland. Sure, you can do it for free, doing everything on the fly and figuring it out. Just as RB5 said, booking through a 'tour' may be a better bet.

We decided to pay the little extra, get all the materials and more, someplace to stay, etc... through Alister (from URW), someone who's booked stuff like this for years. Takes any of the headache of the logistics out if it. We got booked into a bead and breakfast (probably someone rented out their house... but hey, if they're nice enough to do this, who cares, right?)

BTW, Barcelona is about 1.5 hrs away from the town the Rally HQ will be in... (and then an extra 1/2+ drive for the stages) You sure you want to be going back and forth?

I've used this group before and they are great
http://www.rallytravels.com/

I've also used
http://www.rallytravel.com/

I prefer rallytravels as they are cheaper and felt the service was a little better.

Go to the headquarters or try the shakedown stages before the actual race (usually Thursday) to get familair with the surroundings. Pickup the maps that are at the headquarters.

The ones that i've been to have been well organized and locations have been well marked. Just plan to arrive at the stages early. During the tours we were arriving a couple of hours before the stages started.
