Default Mitsubishi green lights 400-hp Lancer Evolution X

Quote:
Just when you thought the new Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X couldnít get any better, Mitsubishi has approved plans to build a new range-topping model called the FQ400. Joining the FQ300 and the FQ360, the FQ400 will go on sale next year.

Inspiration came from the recent 400-hp Mitsubishi Racing Lancer Evo X that took part in the Britcar 24-hour race. The Racing Lancer Evo X finished 5th in its class and 25th overall.

According to AutoExpress, there arenít any firm details on the street-legal version but it will produce close to 400-hp with a new turbocharger, exhaust manifold, a revised ECU and fuel system. 0 to 60 mph will come in 3.5 seconds with top speed coming in at more than 170 mph. Itíll also get other tweaks like bigger brakes and an upgraded suspension.

Pricing is expected to be around £45,000 ($79,015 USD).

Personally, for 79K I'd rather buy a C6 Z06. I would include a Nissan GT-R as well, but very few can be bought for MSRP.

50wHp you can get from just a tune and drop in (~$1K)...so better exaust and better replacement intercooler....not sure but 400 may not be that big of jump. UK warranty laws must be much loose compared to US laws so that they don't worry about transmission failures with more HPs.

We never get the FQs. just like we never get the spec Cs, or anything that actually wins in WRC.

I would also get a new ZO6 for that price.

I am betting it will not be with the SST gearbox....wonder if they will add a 6 speed or just give it different gear spacing (no way it will hit 170 without changing the top gear).

You guys realize the FQ400 was around in Evo IX trim and pulled these numbers, right?

And what's fruitation?

Once again, you guys can't look at a "$79k" pricetag and think that's what it actually is. First of all, if the FQ400 made it to the US it'd be maybe $50-55k TOPS. And besides, you can build your own for much cheaper. It's just in British money, they are redonkulously expensive.

Wait a month or two...my gut feeling is that heavy discounts are coming if the economy doesn't spring back with vigor.

I agree. When will people start realizing this? If you do a simple conversion, I'm sure a z06 cost a lot more than 45k pounds. Doesn't mean the z06 cost well above $79k in the us.

Also, what's the big surprise. Like mentioned, the fq-400 was available a long time ago with about the same price tag and mods. Anyone who want's to see what it could do should check out the Top Gear episode where it went against a Murcelago, good stuff. Now only if they could drop 500lbs off the curb weight.

OH NO that thing will never come to the US, American kids and adults are killing themselves off as it is.

It really does not but as the FQ guys already know there is some satisfaction knowing you have dealer support and regular road tax.

To get that kind of car is really easy and you can do it yourself for much less money we all agree but if you are not into that sort of thing then you may be more inclined to jump in and drive.

Actually the evo 8 had the FQ400 trim, it wasn't that great and had horrible turbo lag and ran on a standalone motec ECU.

The Evo 9 had an FQ 360 trim which was actually a much better setup car than the old 400

you sure about this? As far as I knew, Motec's did not have a built in knock detection setup....since they aren't needed much for the motor sport applications.

Thank you, **** pisses me off. Alot more goes into pricing then just currency exchange rates. Gotta price according to what's fair in the market. GT-R's mrsp in the U.K. is 56000BP~, does it msrp for 112,000$ here? no. (dealer markup aside)

That's what the UK magazine reviews (either Car or Evo) of the FQ400 said years back.

Personally I would rather spend $80k on a Z06 or GTR or 911 or Noble or M5 or two EVO X's then sell one and get 400bhp for less than $40k.

They are? They didn't even come out until a few years ago.
