Default dead turbo (i believe)

I was driving to Daytona today to pick up a car with some friends when i feel like a kind of pop and then my 05 turbo a/t started losing power. then i start hearing a steady ticking when I'm pressing the gas and when i let off it goes away. I'm pretty sure the bearing went out. But just to be on they safe side, what else could it be? And if it is the turbo, what does it take to put in an STi turbo?

When a turbo goes bad usually it stars making a harsh fluttering sound of metal on metal.. What you describe sounds more like you blew a hose.

Definitely a bad bearing. Uber-ridiculous amounts of free play. So tell me more about swapping in an STi turbo. Which turbos can I use? Ive heard that i need the STi ecu and inter cooler as well. Anything else I need to get?

You can use the stock intercooler with the STi turbo, its a pain to stretch the IC hose (y-pipe) to try and get it to work (its not a perfect fit) Or you can rig another y-pipe setup.

you can have your ECU re-flashed to work with the VF-39.

Or you can use a wrx turbo (earlier model years before the LGT style intake manifold).
