Default Another tire question

Hey all, I need a tire recommendation. Here are my wants/needs from the tire:

-Needs to have great wet and dry traction, snow is not a factor.
-Needs to be decently quiet, some noise is ok
-Will not be tracking, simply a spirited DD tire
-Looking to spend under $160/tire
-Tire size will be 245/40/17
-Tread life needs to be decent as well

What would ya'll suggest? I was leaning towards the Kumho Ecsta XS but wasn't sure if it was geared more towards the Auto-x crowd.

I'd say General UHP's or Dunlop Star Specs mattering on how aggressive you want to be. XS's are apparently not that good in the rain.

Thanks! I was considering the Star Specs as well. Any other recommendations?

^^^^ great tires

...but in that size you'll need to roll your rear fenders.

the 595RS-R does not come in a 245/40

235/40 - 235/45 - 255/40

and the 235/40 will fit just fine

The Star Specs also run wide. I run 235/45r17 as daily drivers, and they are plenty wide (as wide as most 245/45r17). I have been really impressed by the wet traction as well. They do have a stiff sidewall, so they are not the most comfortable daily driver tire, but (in my mind at least), they are the perfect balance of performance, wear, and comfort/drivability including noise as they are fairly quiet until well worn. The price is right, too.

^^^^So you think I should take it down to a 235 if I go with the Star Specs, even if I plan on rolling thew rears anyways?

I've got a fiver that says they'll rub. I had to roll my rears for 235/40-17 RE01R's <--- they were just making contact in serious cornering.

With a wagon, I would say yes. You may want to call Luke at TireRack and ask him though.
