Default Hot cat converter setup for time attack

My car fits real well into the street class. I just need a cat and having not run one for 7 years on my car, I don't know jack about them. I understand there's some real high flow stuff out now. One problem I have is that I don't have a test pipe. I have my downpipe and then my Greddy EVO catback. I was thinking of just welding a flange on a generic cat, connecting that to the downpipe and doing some kind of side exit. Any ideas, or anyone set a car up for this class before?
