Default Spectating At The New England Forest Rally

One of my friends (Gary Wiggin / Christopher Duplessis) is in the rally. I will be up in the Mt Washington area during the time period of the New England Forest Rally. Trying to do a little planning for family trip and personal side shoot.

Is there a stage/day that is better to view?

Concord Pond on Friday is great (it's in or near Mexico, Maine, maybe an hour and a half from the Mt. Washington area). Plus you can make a day of it by going to the first stage at Sunday River and the Mexico Park spectator area with the jump.

On Saturday they start in Berlin NH, which is real close to the Mount Washington area. The spectator area there is kinda weak, but if you get there early enough (7am ish) you can head into the stage and find a good spot. In the past, the rally headed north from there for a series of stages on the same roads, however I heard it may be a little different this year, but probably in the same location.

Keep an eye on the website www.newenglandforestrally.com, they should have a spectator guide up soon as well as other relevant information.

Hope that helps!

Concord Pond rules. You get nice and close to the cars. Get there early by car cause they start shutting down the area early. There are a number of side roads to pick from to spectate.

The spectator guide has been posted at newenglandforestrally.com, however it does not have detailed stage maps, more bus info.

I belive the Dillon/Success stage (it's renamed this year, but it's the 2nd and 3rd stage on Saturday) is the one where they hit 120. I remember Travis saying he ran 120 with a flat on that stage.

Watching Ken Blocks Concord Pond video (an excellent way to pick your spectating spot, btw), I don't recall him ever crossing 112ish...which is close enough to 120 anyway.

Where I ended up last year on Concord Pond was pretty crazy. I was the only Spectator Marshal with tons of drunk people around me. We we're at a point in the road that dropped about 10' feet over 45' feet which made for some awesome hang time. I believe it shows up in some Rally America footage from last year. We even had the town Cop with the Lights on fly by us and get the Crown Vic off the ground.

1:13 in the Video is where I'm talking about,

^^Is that where Travis and Ken both sort of nose dived? Wonder if they sorted out the jumping ability of the newer STI's yet...thought ACP's wreck at x-games leaves some questions around the Evo as well.

If I remember correctly the EVO issue was lack of speed. They certainly do not lack speed on that Stage and Last years winner, McShea was jumping just fine.

Bus from Mexico Recreation area.

My favorite [to spectate] is middle dam in/out. The last 2 miles in/out has some pretty fast crests. 5 L/R turns.

See you up there, in the #217 car

Was that the spot where that lifted pickup was hung up on the side of the road and blocking traffic in/out right after the stage?

I lucked out on that stage last year... I was able to get a spot right by one of the radio operators so I got to hear everything that was going on.

This should be stated again. Good quality bug spray IS A MUST. We used 'OFF!' last year and my buddy still got lyme disease. I'm going to pick some peel your skin off high test stuff at REI this week.

You probably will want to combine that with wearing pants instead of shorts and leave the flipflops at home. Poison Ivy is not cool either.

I'm planning on spectating on Friday. Who else is going to be there? Would be cool to meet up with some people since it's going to be just me there for the day. Let me know the plan!
