Check out the video, and the on track footage of the car we ran in One Lap. This was taken during this past weekend's Redline Time Attack Round 3 at Autobahn. It's the second car in the video.
Notice how the tire stays on the surface instead of skipping, and how the body stays composed compared to the road surface (watch the sideskirt).

Spending time in front of a keyboard being an internet blow hard consistently picking on the uninformed is easier than competing with others in person..............
Why his childish responses like the one above don't get him banned is beyond me. |

Congrats on the win guys!! Especially being that it was your first time out at RTA lol!!
Car looks super composed everywhere, even when you you have the little off through the grass it hardly seems unsettled at all lol! The suspension just flows over everything on the track. Maybe your win can help more people in that series realize that a well balanced and set up car can be seriously quick. And that drag car like power, and tires as wide as the rules allow is not the only way to set fast times. Hope to see you guys down here in CA. at the end of the season! -Anthony |

That was awesome! Sweet times on street tires. Good luck in the rest of the series.

I went low for a while in my Forester. I used to run the AGX struts with Prodrive STI (05+) springs. I later went to D-Spec struts with RCE Wagon fronts plus Prodrive STI (05+) rears. I loved the handling of this setup, but it was too low for rally-x although I did "ice race" and rally-x once on this setup. Now I'm mimicking the setup but with more bump travel. I went to GC coils on the D-Specs, basically gained about 2" of clearance and bump travel, went up 25% on stiffness at 350F/250R lb/in to essentially max out the strut's adjustment range and aid roll stiffness with the raise. The added bump travel, despite the rise in stiffness, toned down the ride harshness a good bit over the bumpy stuff. You never really notice it until you can directly compare, but the car does actually use up a significant amount of suspension travel even when set stiffer and if low will bounce off the bump stops quite often. The inch or two you get with all these aftermarket spring options simply push the limit of what's really functional on roads and can become more problematic during sport driving and potentially annoying during daily use. The car as it is now is extremely user friendly and stable during the first couple auto-xes of the season, and a lot of it was simply from the gain in bump travel and re-centering the static ride height around the middle of the struts travel range. It just functions so much better.
It's tough to realize how problematic low can be unless you can compare back to back on setups and notice how very different the suspension functions over the same surfaces. |

I noticed a 1/4" difference in ride height from the driver's seat, FWIW. When I went from 13.9" ish front to 13.6" front the ride got noticeably stiffer. This year I cut the bumpstops which helped a little, but it does not ride as well as it used to.
(Handles great, but also remember, I have almost most of an inch more travel than most folks because of my top mount camber plates) |
