Default Another "recommend me some tires!" thread.

So here's the deal. I've got Goodyear Eagle GT-HRs right now, and I love them for the most part - but holy **** are they noisy. I don't know how much of it is the tire or how much of it is just because it's a Subaru. They're also absurdly expensive.
When these crap out (after 50k or some crazy **** like that, I'm just going to start tracking them more so I can get my moneys worth) I'm putting on a new set of Konig Blatant 18 x 7.5s. I'd like a nice tire for them.
I could go with the GT-HR again, which I may do, but I'd like some expert opinions here.

Criteria:
1. High-performance (I track sometimes)
2. All-season (Weather in GA is weird)
3. Not the most expensive thing in the world
4. Sturdy (my luck is terrible, so I'll be driving over and into ****.)

So let's hear it!
Thanks in advance!

I'm seriously considering the Potenza Pole Position RE960s, even though they're damn expensive.

Luke, what's your personal take on the GT HRs? Am I going to like the 960s better?
The GTHRs have gotten so much less expensive!

the GT-HR while a decent tire is a pretty big step backwards fromthe RE960 in all catagories.
The RE960 is worth the extra $$$

for more info or to place an order call me directly or use this LINK

You want all seasons which are a compromise in themselves.
You want great dry performance which generally comes at the expense of other attributes.
You want good performance in bad conditions.
You want decent treadlife.

...and you want all that for under $100 a tire?

The Bridgestone 960 is a great compromise tire. Included in that is you compromising on price

Boy are you in for some fun.

For an A/S tire. yea RE960 AS are good. stay away from GY eagle RSA's.

I think the potenza G019's are a AS pattern. I've heard good things about them.

you want a quiet set of 18s? good luck.

Less sidewall = stiffer sidwall = more noise/vibration transfer, even in the 'quieter' tires.

If you want quieter tires you need smaller wheels, taller sidewall and narrower tire.

If you want the performance or look of larger wheels, then you're stuck with noise.

Given fixed tire dimensions "width, aspect ratio, wheel diameter." there can still be a world of difference as far noise from material choices and construction.

Rayon body ply vs. Polyester
Nylon cap ply vs. aramid
tread compound
tread pattern (air pumping)
sidewall gauge
cavity shape
bead filler compound
