Default 60K service for '02 WRX = $$$$$$?

I've called a few shops/dealerships for quotes and the 60K service for my '02 WRX seems to be in the $675 to $795 price range. Is that a fair price for what is done during the service? It seems a lot higher than a few years ago.

Thanks!

This again...

Dude, replace spark plugs NGK's platinums, it will run you 40-50 at most. If you want you can drain the transmission/differ fluid, around 60, brake fluid 10, coolant 30. Then the basics if needed, air filter, cabin filter. All under 200 worth of parts/fluids.

Damn that's a lot of moneys. The local shop around here quoted me $6-700 just to do timing belt, pump, pulley adn new fluids when I hit my next service milestone

Sorry.

Unfortunately, I don't have the time or space to do the work myself. I was just taken aback by the quotes I've gotten and wanted to see if they were about right. I seem to remember that this type of service was around $500 a few years ago, but all of my local quotes have been much higher.

Don't ask dealerships for their "60k service". It will likely include a lot of add-ons. Check the Maintenance Schedule pdf here and you tell them what you want done.

Yeah last year when I got it done I too noticed how it went up, they blamed it on the price of oil then, but whatever.

I'd say go by the book, BUT, one of the things in the book is checking the timing belt. Maybe I got swindled, but there were telling me that the difference between checking it and just changing it would be a difference of about $100. They were saying that to check the belt they had to take off a bunch of stuff to get to it anyway.

Apparently the dealer price for the "60k" service was a combo price kind of like the combo meals at McDonalds. To do the stuff just in the book a'la carte would come out the same price as their service package, but the service package had more stuff in it.
