I seem to be loosing about 1qt of oil every 1000 miles. It doesn't seem like I am burning it. No blue smoke or strange odor and the oil on the dip stick looks pretty clean. No leaks either so I am not sure where it is going. Does anyone know where I should start? I already seafoamed the motor through the BPV hose to try to free up the oil control rings and put some in my oil with the last oil change. Any help? Thanks in advance.

1 qt. per 1k miles is considered normal according to Subaru and many other manufacturers. Any chance you're running an Energy Conserving oil?

You can use conventional oil without consumption, but you'll need something robust, IMO.
Try a High Mileage conventional or blend like Castrol GTX HM, Pennzoil HM or Valvoline MaxLife in 10W-30 or 10W-40. You could also try Rotella 10W-30 conventional if you can find it. -Dennis |

5W-30 is too thin, especially on hot summer days.
Try 5W-40, 5W-50, 10W-30. Works for me anyways and i usually run 5W-40 or 10W-30 all year round, depending which oil is on sale ![]() |
