02 WRX. 113k miles.
I'm getting a very noticable hollow wobbling sound when I make turns either left or right. I can still hear the noise a little bit when driving straight, but as soon as I start turning the wheel, it becomes more audible. I first thought it was my tires, but wouldn't it make a consistent sound all the time if it was? It's also not a grinding sound, or metal to metal contact sound... it really sounds like something is loose and is wobbling around creating an echo-ey sound. Wheel bearings maybe? It's driving me nuts... ![]() Edit: Also, I'm also getting a bit of steering wheel vibration. I haven't got an alignment in awhile either. When I'm turning, I can almost feel whatever is wobbling right through my steering wheel...

Jack your front end up and give your wheels a couple tugs up/down left/right. If there is excessive play its wheel bearings. I'd give the rear a check as well.

might be a torn cv boot, no more lubrication in there. Or wheel bearing.

Does it make that noise while you are stationary? If so it could be power stearing issue.

Just wondering because I would rather replace mine myself, but no idea which side is bad, lol. EDIT: My steering wheel wobbles too, but I got an alignment and tires balanced 3 times! Wobble is still there. |

Does it wobble at all speeds or just some? If just some speeds, I will guess it's ~65MPH. Since everything else seems OK, check for a dragging front brake caliper.

The noise/wobble gets louder/worse as speed increases. I have posted a thread on my issue. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1871172 I will check for a dragging caliper, thank you. |
