Default New to anchorage

So I just got into anchorage last week to start a new job and don't really know anyone here or anything to do here. Just wondering if anyone wanted to grab a beer and shoot the ****. Where some good places to go out here?

welcome!

you'll find we are an accommodating bunch the lot of us. Check out this month's events:

July 1: Canada Day cook out at our house, bring your own meat and enjoy a beer and watch "Strange Brew"
July 4: Whittier Parade, Show n Shine and BBQ. Maybe we can all cruise down there together (about 1.5 hrs away)
July 12: PCA Autox event at Bartlett
July 25: AKIC girls Night (if you're a chick)
July 31 - Aug 1: Great Denali Meet!

As for places to chill and get a beer, I recommend Humpy's on 6th Ave, Platinum Jaxx (club) on 5th and the infamous Koots on Spenard.

I've heard good things about a few of those places. I love strange brew, where is "our house"?

"Our House"

(As recorded by Crosby, Stills & Nash)
GRAHAM NASH

I'll light the fire
You place the flowers in the vase
That you bought today
Starin' at the fire for hours and hours
While I listen to you play your love songs all night long for
Me, only for me.

Come to me now and rest your head for just five minutes
Everything is done
Such a cozy room, the windows are illuminated by the evening
Sunshine through them, fiery gems
For you, only for you.

Our house is a very, very, very fine house
With two cats in the yard
Life used to be so hard
Now everything is easy 'cause of you.

And now, la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la

Our house is a very, very, very fine house
With two cats in the yard
Life used to be so hard
Now everything is easy 'cause of you.

And now, I'll light the fire
While you place the flowers in the vase that you bought
Today.

The other one, the "Our house, is in the middle of our street" one....

Is an old Talking Heads song.

Welcome to AKIC, where we can take a topic and render it useless in less then ten posts....lol

Seriously, welcome to Anchorage. There's a lot of good folks around, just go to some of the events, get togethers (often fairly spontaneous), and you'll get to know some people pretty quickly.

And oh yeah..."our house" is Hope (Hi-Speed Solutions and AKLGT) and Phil's (Mavrik) place. I know where it is, but don't have the address memorized. I'm sure one of them can fill in that blank.

Wrong.

Madness did "Our House."

Talking Heads did "Burning Down the House."

That's bizarre, man. I don't really care much one way or another, honestly. I just looked it up and about a hundred sites came up with Talking Heads, so I went with it. It's EVERYWHERE on google. You actually have to dig to find out that it's NOT right.

Damn internet and it's misinformation.

You are the bestest at knowing who did what bad 80's music.

yep, 7ish. bring your own meat to grill. We only have a few burgers left from the last shin dig at the house. I'll pick up some Molson tomorrow.

Oh I did Google search as well. The ones you probably brought up were lyrics sites, which had the lyrics to the Madness song.
