Post The real scoop on Power Source

I think a lot of people on I-Club have been to our shop but I will formally introduce us to you anyway. My name is Hunter and my partners name is Hon, we each own half of Power Source. We've been monitoring posts about our shop on I-Club because it's a very good way to actually see where we're doing well and what we need to improve on.

We've talked for years about opening up a shop like this, and figured there's no better time than now. Hon and I have been into cars since before we had drivers licenses, I did my first automatic to manual conversion when I was 14. (don't ask what it was in) I worked for Arctic Import Repair for about 4 years so I have some good import experience, a lot with Audi V-8 and 5cyl, VW including VR6, Porsche 911 and 944, Subaru (Impreza and Outback) all Honda/Acura, some BMW, Mercedes, Ferarri 308 and Testerossa.

I'll clarify a few things for everybody. NO the saleen isn't real, but, with a few exceptions, side-by-side you can't tell. Yes, they made a few Cobra Saleens. The turbo on my Typhoon isn't a T-78, it's a PT-72 with a "Q" trim wheel and an A/R .96 tang style exhaust housing. While we're friends with everyone at Perfectionist right next door we are in no way affiliated with them.

We really appreciate all the comments about our showroom, we put in many many hard hours to build it. With the exception of the beams in the showroom and the drywall work we built everything on our own. Since we didn't have to contract out much work we don't have any loans to pay on so our overhead is low, but we will be eating top ramen for a while.

One issue we had was pricing. We wanted to offer good prices on most products so we set our prices just below retail, well, it didn't take long to figure out that wasn't going to work. Between the cut-throat prices on the internet and the input we got from I-Club, we've completley restructured our prices to be much more competetive.

Something I think that's important for everyone to know is that we're not just in business to buy, sell, and install some parts and hope to make a living off of it. Too many shops limit themselves to that. Our goal is much broader, including research, development, manufacture and testing. Our first step will be a model 248 Dynojet 2-wheel dyno, then later adding the 4-wheel drive attachment. Mandrel bending and TIG welding equiptment are a must, as well as a vertical mill and lathe. We are realistic and know of course this won't happen overnight.

While we didn't make it out to the Eagle River car show this year, I belive we are going to be sponsoring the May 18th car show at the Sullivan, and we are sponsoring June 15th pro-import day.

I'm sure I didn't cover everything here, so feel free to ask questions, I'd be glad to answer them. Thanks

Wow, sounds like you guys have some good plans for your place.

When do you hope to have the mandrel bending and tig welding equipment? I may be in the market for some custom exhaust work next fall.

First of all....Im impressed that you guys posted. Not a big deal really but VERY cool of you too step up and present yourselves to the crowd that you're catering too (mmm food).

Damn you for posting the fake saleen, I wanted to go in and ask Hon where the # plate was oh well hehe.

Im yet to make it down there, what's your hours? I met Hon a few years ago at the track with the Grand National...guess he bent the frame or something that day so I never saw him again hehe.

After talking to Allen and other guys that have gone down there and told me you guys really know your stuff... I know Hon does, never met you I don't think, but hear you do as well.

Anyhow, I REALLY hope this works out for you and doesn't fail like past shops. You have 2 things they didn't though....a real shop, and knowlege. The past were opening by people who lived thinking their integra was the only way to go, and failed to notice there's more out there...and only knew the part, not the purpose.

Although I most likely won't be a major customer, as my car is too rare to bother carrying parts for it lol...I'll peek in and check it out

Great to see you guy's posting Hunter!

I really liked your guy's shop, had a nice layout to it and was a very comfortable atmosphere.

Edit - When are you guys going to start carrying nitrous for less then $7.00 per pound?

Can't wait to see the Ty run at the track. That 72 trim should hall major a$$...

Keep up the good work guys!

Lates,

Scott

Great post! I hope you guys stick around because your shop is the only one I have seen that really caters to import performance. All the other shops just say they do performance work on imports just so they can have your car in there. Nice presentation and setup at your shop too. I hope you guys don't mind if I stop in and ask some tech questions.
