I'm sure you feel gay for other reasons and are just covering it up with not going to the track

Tranny question: So why does everyone that does the 6 speed swaps seem to go for the 07's? What are the major advantages of this year over previoius? I'm sure its gearing but I dont compeletly understand it.

How much can stock WRX 5 speeds sell for? I'm trying to figure out how much I need to save for this.

If I want for the 07 6speed swap, how much extra is it to hookup a DCCD controller? Am I also going to have to get new wheel hubs and wheels? Sounds like this is tons O'money.

The 07 STI has better gearing meaning with the 07 STI tranny and gear ratio you are not shifting into the extra gear at the 1/4 mark.

With the 3.70 rear gear I'm not exactly how that changes in the WRX.

Factory DCCD is rather hard...there is an aftermarket Spyder Controller I believe that most use.

You will have to change axles from my understanding. 05+ STI wheels will work.

The 2007 STi transmission is divided into 2 generations. The first(and best) generation has the improved 2nd-4th gears like everyone knows. But it also has the included oil pump in the transmission, this generation is $1100 more brand new than the second generation.

The 2nd generation shares all the same characteristics of the 1st gen except the oil pump has been deleted and oil splash guides are installed throughout the case. This tranny brand new can be had for about $3700.

The 06 and 07 STi trannies can be swapped into a 02-05 WRX relatively easy since they use a 1.1:1 transfer ratio like the 02-05 WRXs so the rear diff 3.54 is compatible, all you need is the trans itself, a driveshaft from a 4EAT impreza(98 and newer), STi shifter, and if you have female axles(early 04 and lower) you also need 2 axle stubs and oil seals. To make the DCCD work get a Spiider DCCD controller from www.dccdpro.com

Installation? Ask me

The best possible 6MT you could build(not counting PPG) would be:
Start with 05 6MT(so you get oil pump and 35/65 native split)
05 STi 1st gear
07 STi 2nd 3rd and 4th gears
06~07 STi Carbon Synchros
08 Legacy GT Spec B 5th and 6th Gears
JDM STi 4.11 Final Drive Ratio Ring and Pinion
04 STi APTRAC Front Differential

^this is the 6MT that I am going to build

Update on Ron's build, got the block back from the machine shop thursday, they did an excellent job on boring and honing the engine. I will definately go to them in the future (JB's Auto Machine Shop on Route 7).
Fresh Bores

Crank and Rods Installed, block bolted together

Pistons Installed

Oil Pump Installed

Oil Cooler Installed, coming together nicely

Due to a delay I'm hoping to have his motor ready by mid next week, I have something I have to do so I cant finish assembly tomorrow like I planned to.

Specs on Ron's Engine:
Bored and Honed to 92.5mm
OEM 92.5mm( .5mm overbore) Pistons
OEM Piston Rings
STi Forged Rods
OEM STi Rod Bearings
OEM Main Bearings
ARP Rod Bolts
WRX Intake Cams/ STi Exhaust Cams more duration and overlap ftw, the difference in duration between the 2 cams helps as well
Gimmick Motorsports Turbo Inlet Hose
All new gaskets
New PCV System
New timing belt and tensioners
New waterpump.

If anyone is curious, I went with OEM pistons over Forged because he is only shooting for 300~350whp, the weak link in the WRX is the rods(which I upgraded to STi forged which are known to handle 500whp). The tighter clearances with the oem cast pistons will greatly help the longevity over loose forged piston clearances.
