Hey guys whats going on. Just moved down to Bmore from up by NYC. Living in Canton for now with my 05 sti. I have a couple of questions you locals might be able to answer real quick.

Its a similar post to a post I made in another thread, so if you are an avid forum reader forgive me for putting it in two places.

Is there anyway to get my car inspected with 20% tints at a place that would ignore them? or is it only MSP? Also, is it only front windscreen/front windows that matter? or does 20% tint on any window mean problems for me?

If I have JDM seats in my 05 sti, and it occasionally gives an airbag error (since it doesn't have them).... will that be a problem? I don't really have an option other than to maybe reach out to a fellow member... throw the stock seats in there.. do the the check, then swap them back out. I have the Resistors soldered directly to the harness, but it still occasionally comes on, and with my luck it will be on when I go to inspection.

Any decent Subaru shop recommendation near Baltimore? My ECU/odbII harness may be FUBAR'ed as I can't read anything from it, and I am occasionally getting a CEL (That I can't read). I figure as they will need to hook up to this to do the inspection I need to get it fixed before I go. Since I may need an ECU (its open sourced tuned, so I'll obviously lose that ) it may need to be replaced, i figured i was better off going to a dealer.

Looking forward to coming out to some of the meets as well.

unless you buy a BS inspection ticket you will not be able to pass with 20% tints as 35% is the legal limit in MD.

AFAIK the airbag light can be on and the car will still pass inspection, i have a car in the shop right now that was inspected and the airbag light was on and the inspector just put it on the comments line but gave the inspection pass and all.

subaru performance wise i'd recommend IAG or Andrewtech, stay far away from agile auto. if you need dealer work, I work at wilkins subaru in glen burnie and can help you out(just ask for mike if you come down here).

you making it out to the meet tomorrow night? i'll be there

I may try to get out there and meet you guys. Not sure my affairs will be in order enough though. (literally just moved in saturday and there is junk everywhere)

Thats good news about you working at wilkins. Thats where I was looking to take it for this ECU problem. I do a lot of work myself so it's a hard pill to swallow to have SOA diagnose the CEL error considering I have no idea of how quickly they will figure it out (basically how much I will get hammered for # of hours worked)

Also, the tint thing... is more than 35% legal on the back windows? I know in CT you can have limo tint on the back and rear windows, but are limited to 35% on the fronts.

Thanks
-Dave

Keep your car licensed in the state you are leaving. There are so many military ppl here you can get away with out of state tags. Besides the state will charge you 6% excise tax when you tag ur car in maryland.

How can you keep it registered in another state? I assumed I would have to register in MD and get an MD license. Plus I am moving the insurance to MD anyway... which unfortunately is a good bit more expensive as well

Have any relatives? Register the car there with their address. It's not like you'll be getting correspondence there on a daily basis.

I had my car registered in SC for the last 10 years even though 5 were spent in GA and 1 here before I bought the WRX.

Its been registered in CT at my parents address, and could still remain registered there. Id rather get the insurance swapped to MD and my license etc. I figured if i did all that I would have to swap the car registration too. no?

Yes, you have to have registration and insurance in the same state IIRC (thats what the insurance company told me at least, it could be different for your situation).

I'm pretty sure though that on average MD rates are pretty high compared to the rest of the national average. Have you checked to see how different it will be?

yea its a good bit higher, something like 400$/6. It's already in the works though, so whatever. I think its time to fully separate from the old address anyway. I've had things all over the place for a while, and this way the taxes and things aren't so backwards and confusing every year.
